My experience working with at-risk populations has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the impact trauma has on an individual. I support and work with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Clients can expect to enter an accepting, welcoming environment so we can work together through life’s obstacles from the past and help you find peace in the present. I believe that empowerment is one of the strongest tools a client can have so I help facilitate that by holding client-led sessions where I am able to support your experience and help you voice your narrative about it.

Hello there! My name is Latoya. Do you ever feel stuck? Have you ever felt bruised, broken, and felt like giving up? These feelings often tie back to some anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. If this is you then I am the right person to come and see. I am open to helping anyone, but see a lot of patients that have issues with the aforementioned three issues.

I have experience as a health psychologist working with chronic pain and illness and have many years of training in hypnotherapy and meditation techniques and am very interested in the intersection between healing and spirituality.
As a psychologist, with almost 30 years of experience, I approach the therapy relationship with a blend of modern science, ancient wisdom (Secular, Yogic and Buddhist philosophies), common sense, humor and integrity. Increasing awareness through mindful intention and observation of the mind-body, describes my approach to psychotherapy. The therapeutic relationship is collaborative and aimed at identifying your obstacles to healing. The co-creation of a clear pathway between the heart, mind and emotions is the therapeutic work.Your "best self" will be challenged, nurtured and supported in the process.

Sometimes you just need a safe place to land. Sometimes the activity and busyness in our daily lives are poor substitutions for intimate connections. Intimacy in relationships are the balm to our hurting hearts. Relationships are the sutures to our open wounds. Creating a safe, sacred space, and deep, quiet listening is the fertile soil needed for authentic sharing, deepening intimacy and healing. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over thirty-five years of clinical experience, I offer individual, couple, and group psychotherapy. Upon client request, I offer to integrate their spirituality in the healing process.

Based on client preferences, I am also able to provide faith-based, Christian counseling or incorporate spirituality into the counseling process.
I believe that as human beings, our being matters more than our doing. I help people foster peace with themselves apart from anything they could ever accomplish or do. I also believe that we are all made to be in relationship with one another. Relationships are where we learn love, comfort, encouragement, joy, and hope. Alternately, they are also where we experience pain, abuse, abandonment, and rejection. It is my desire that my clients are able to reflect on the pain of their past with peace and hope and are able to have healthy and joy-filled relationships with others.

I specialize in trauma-informed art therapy with a transpersonal approach, willing to integrate faith and spirituality at the discretion of the client.
Beyond any specific diagnosis, I view people and mental health holistically. With a background in education, I provide compassionate understanding of the unique challenges faced throughout the lifespan. If you are unsure about seeing a therapist, or if you have not found traditional 'talk therapy' to be beneficial, consider scheduling a consultation with me.

I have interests in LGBTQ+ advocacy, spirituality, meditation, and dreams.
Are you feeling dragged down by life's challenges? The Zen proverb 'Let go, or be dragged' reminds us that in order to be free of suffering, we must let go. I am inspired by secular Buddhism and believe that suffering is an innate human experience, not created from life's problems, but from our clinging to "the way things should be" and resisting impermanence and change. I help individuals develop acceptance through mindfulness and other Eastern teachings to provide them with freedom to flow with life and equanimity to remain calm even amongst the most chaotic storms.

I am interested in helping people overcome old messages that interfere with life today.I am especially good at incorporating spiritual healing into my practice. Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
