My interests include working with families and illness, depression, anxiety, trauma, and psychosis.
Connection is a basic human need. Every person deserves at least one place where they can go, say what is on their mind, and not be judged. People have a right to be listened to, supported, and advocated for. If you are struggling, I invite you to participate in therapy. Experience the healing that comes from human connection in a judge-free supportive environment. I have been a practicing mental health therapist for the past 9 years. I completed my master's degree in marriage and family therapy in 2015. I have also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

I specialize in issues of psychosis, grief/loss, depression, family conflict, reunification, co-parenting, dual diagnosis, anxiety, and substance abuse/addiction.
Looking for someone to help put the hope back into your life? As a therapist, I enjoy working through those dark pieces we each have within ourselves and teaching others to lean into the discomfort without all the guilt and shame. I've lived a life that has forced me to befriend my own dark places, and walk with them in ways that are gifts, not burdens. I'd be honored to help you do the same. I myself am in recovery so I know how it feels to take the first step in healing. Even though it is hard, the reward is worth it.

I often integrate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectics, and psychodynamics into my education-based style. We will certainly work on attachment concerns and healthy "relating," too.

I have worked with adolescents and adults with problems ranging from adjustment disorders, phase of life problems, trauma, substance use, marital/family issues to bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
Clients come in all forms because we all need a little help when life gets overwhelming. Sometimes the problems are environmental, other times they’re internal based on how we respond to stimuli and emotion. In any case, we all need some insight during some parts of our life, to overcome a hurdle or figure out why or how to move forward.

I have some clinical experience with psychosis and trauma, and will soon be trained in EMDR.
My ideal client is willing to talk about and feel their feelings and the way they affect their lives. Not all of my clients can talk about their feelings quite yet, or even identify them. That’s okay. Some are absolutely terrified to acknowledge or address feelings, and that’s okay too. It’s only when clients are unwilling that I personally run into a wall with my work.

I enjoy working with our aging population, people experiencing psychosis, or personality disorders.
I believe in, and practice from, a relational perspective to address substance use and mental health concerns. I believe in an individualized approach to meeting my clients where they are and addressing the concerns they believe are most relevant, which helps them reach their full potential for happiness and personal growth. I am a cognitive guy who believes that many of the problems we face can be overcome by examining the way our beliefs influence our thoughts, which influence everything else. It often comes down to thinking about how you think.

incarceration, gang membership), homelessness, and first responder-related vicarious trauma, as well as those with multiplicity/plurality (aka Dissociative Identity Disorder) and extra-sensory experiences (sometimes called psychosis).
Offering virtual sessions in California, Nevada, Oregon, and Utah. Trauma can take its toll; it can even feel unspeakable. If you have survived something that has caused you pain, you deserve to heal and release what has been trapped inside of you, without fear of judgment. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to recover; everyone is unique. All of the "marks" of trauma you notice in yourself hold wisdom to offer, in terms of understanding how you managed to stay alive and survive this whole time. It’s not about looking for “what’s wrong” with you; it’s about understanding what’s happened to you and taking your power back.

Psychosis Therapists

What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?

The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?

People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?

Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?

It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
