We are taking new clients at our office. We believe that therapy is a journey to build a better you. Whether that is moving through trauma, exploring and conquering anxiety, learning sports psychology tactics, raising your child (and dealing with the wonderful adolescent drama), fighting addiction, or strengthening your marriage, we're in this together. If you enter my therapy office, you are here to grow. While therapy is a process, it does not have to be a long, drawn out, difficult and treacherous.

Accepting New BCBS, Aetna, Providence, and PacificSource Commercial (not through OHP) in OREGON. Finding a therapist can be a hassle. Keep going. Reach out via email and we can do a consult to see if it is a good fit. I help people identify their values and the aspects of life worth suffering for. When we can accept and allow discomfort, we can live a meaningful life now, as opposed to waiting until we feel "better." I like this quote as a reminder - The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.

It is hard enough being a student athlete, let alone being a queer student athlete. I know how few and far between resources specifically designed for you can be and I am here to offer some relief. When it feels like the world hasn’t chosen you, I am choosing you because I know everything you have to offer and the athlete you can become when you feel safe, heard, and allowed to be the most authentic version of yourself. With the right support and mindset, you will elevate yourself and everyone else around you.

I believe that if someone is willing to be honest with him or herself and is willing to change, then all things are possible. I work hard to help people find their own answers. If I were looking for a therapist, I would want to be sure that the therapist would be a great listener, would be willing to accept my values, and would be able to guide me into solutions for my problems. Those are the qualities I work hard to bring into therapy. Not very many therapists have emphasized men's issues in their practice. I help men understand themselves, and women seeking to understand their partner or other important people in their life.

Clients may be struggling due to past trauma, addiction, compulsive/impulsive behavior, negative thoughts or self-beliefs, low confidence, low self-esteem, anxiety, fear, depression, and most other struggles in life. People are FASCINATING! Day-to-day we come into contact with people who have weathered unimaginable challenges, people who have been knocked down, people who have been hurt, people who have hurt others; and yet we just move along! I believe there is power in a pause. It has been a great privilege to accompany, witness, and pause with people in their struggles and their efforts to change over the past 10 years. I am adept at working with people who experience depression, anxiety, PTSD, mood disorders, drug abuse, etc. I strive to meet clients where they are and collaboratively develop a plan that feels right for them.

Sports Performance Therapists

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
