Take a deep breath - you being here is a brave step in your healing journey! Being vulnerable is scary and finding someone to be vulnerable with can be even scarier. I am here to help you in the process of opening up, increasing self-awareness and personal growth to be who you want to be. You are the reason that I am here.

I am trained in EMDR, but more importantly, I focus on finding what fits the client.
I understand how beginning therapy for the first time or re-entering therapy can be a stressful experience. Finding a qualified therapist is important, but you also want to find a therapist you connect with personally and who you can trust with your thoughts and feelings. My education gives me the qualifications, but my life experience provides the connection and empathy needed to guide or support you as we explore together the challenges that brought you to therapy and how to overcome them.

Sometimes, all a person needs is to have someone who will listen, validate, and allow them to feel what they are feeling before looking for the solution to the issue. I seek to allow that space in my sessions by bringing in a combination of validation, solution-focused treatments, and meeting you where you are at rather than expecting you to meet me where I'm at. The sessions we have allow flexibility while still giving space for structure and ideas for you to practice and work on things on a personal level.

Our work together will be focused on your goals for healing and an improved quality of life. I have experience working with trauma, attachment, adoption, loss & grief, anxiety, depression and military veterans.

I am trained in EMDR, ART, Theraplay, TF-CBT, Jungian/experiential therapy, and other modalities meaning I have training in trauma, family work, attachment, and more.
In life, difficult situations occur. These experiences can make us anxious, question ourselves and our self-worth, and affect our ability to connect with others and plan for the future we desire. Through EMDR, ART, and a mix of other empirically based modalities, it is possible to heal from past trauma, feel more empowered, and increase life satisfaction generally. I have been in the field for twenty years and a therapist for thirteen. I have also been an administrator, supervisor, and trainer for therapists. During that time, I have come to appreciate how change is possible in our lives and in our relationships with others.

I use EMDR and IFS in session to help clients gain the insight and skills to help themselves find the empowerment and self-love that comes from healing.
Now accepting new clients: Are you struggling to cope with your mental health? Are your emotions hard to deal with or difficult to undersatnd? Do you have symptoms of trauma you wish you could change? The reality is that most of us struggle with all of these things, and that healing is possible! You have taken the first step in that healing process by looking into how to receive help and I truly believe reaching out can be one of the hardest parts of the process. Be proud of yourself! You are most likely wanting to feel the peace that healing can bring, and as a therapist I love nothing more than helping my clients feel that.

I offer EMDR, IFS, and other emotionally based therapies.
Do you have that voice in the back of your mind that constantly tells you how awful you are, the one that is relentless and won’t go away? Sometimes in life we feel overwhelmed, disconnected, and unable to take care of our needs. We take this out on food, our bodies, and those we love. It can be difficult to face things, even if we want to. Despite our best efforts we find ourselves feeling defeated and worry we are failing. This might be because you have difficult things in your life that are keeping you from being able to make the changes you desire. Seeking counseling is a brave step in reconnecting with yourself and your life.

I practice from a person centered framework and utilize CBT, DBT, and EMDR techniques.
Although I have a wait list for new clients, I have some great clinicians that I am providing direct clinical supervision to at Mountain Valley Counseling that are accepting new clients. Contact me and I can tell you about our staff and help get you scheduled with one of my supervisees. At MVC, we are person-centered in our approach, and fundamentally believe in depth psychology methods. We want to help people beyond basic symptom reduction, which research shows, provides more lasting change. Oftentimes the issue someone presents to therapy with is a symptom of deeper difficulties or traumas.

I use various modalities such as EMDR, CBT, ACT and DBT and work to find the modality that best suites the needs of those I'm helping.
I believe that despite life’s challenges, and often because of them, every individual has their own unique strengths and capabilities. Every individual has worth and purpose. Our own difficult life circumstances or misperceptions can sometimes mask these truths, but I seek to help my clients remember and internalize them. Hope and healing can be found by drawing on the strengths within!

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
