I have worked with anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, grief/loss issues, co-dependency/love addiction, ACOA (adult children of alcoholics), faith based issues, women's issues, ADHD, LGTBQ+ issues, and anger.
Do you feel like you are stuck in the same patterns that do not work for you? Do you feel like your relationships are suffering? Are you consistently frustrated, tired, and feeling like there is no hope? Today many are realizing that past patterns of thinking, unresolved conflicts from the past, trauma, and abuse can lead to emotional challenges. Unfortunately many develop addictions, anxiety, depression, and find themselves in unhealthy relationships. I specialize in treating anxiety, addictions, depression, and trauma. I believe that we all have the capability to make changes and lead our best lives, and you can too.

Hi, my name is Spencer, thanks for stopping by and taking a look at my profile. Finding the right therapist can be tricky at times. Here's a bit about myself to help you see if we'd be a good fit. My main goal as a therapist is to help others live in congruence with themselves. I believe peace comes and shame is reduced when one is aligned with their personal values. A lot of different events can push us out of alignment, and therapy is great at getting us back on track. Areas I spend a lot of time in are: self esteem, substance abuse, relationships, men's/ women's issues, life transitions, anxiety/depression.

I am a therapist because I believe everyone deserves to be truly seen, heard, and healed. Life might have taught you that you are unworthy, incapable, or unable to experience peace. I hope to guide you through your journey of healing and growth. I believe that the resources you need to find that peace and healing are inside of you–after all, you know yourself and your needs better than anyone. It can be hard to ask for help and be vulnerable with a stranger. I do my best to cultivate an environment where you feel safe to share not only your struggles, but also your joys and laughter.

Are you struggling with a critical voice that says you are “too much” or “not enough” for those around you? Are you tired of people pleasing or defensiveness taking the lead in your relationships? As a recovering perfectionist with late-diagnosed ADHD, I am familiar with the work of building self-compassion and a growth mindset. You aren’t alone if you feel like you’ve lost yourself to traumatic events, social expectations, and the stressors of everyday life. It is my hope that my therapy office can be a space where you show up as you are and take a break from questioning your worth.

It has been my great fortune to provide psychological counseling to children, adolescents, adults, and families on the Wasatch Front for many years. I have discovered that psychotherapy works best when provided in a supportive and accepting environment. I take an active role; yet believe that respect and collaboration are critical in the therapeutic process. Through collaboration, we will work together to find ways of reducing stress and anxiety in your life, while also establishing new ways to cope with difficulties that are consistent with your personal values and beliefs.

You're surrounded by people, yet no one really knows you. No one understands what it's like to be you, or even what you really think or feel. It's crowded. Yet you're lonely. You wish someone cared enough to offer more than just a shallow "Hey, how are ya" as they walk on without waiting for a response. Worse still, there are people around you who think they can control you. Limiting you and stifling your choices. You're discouraged and you wonder why even bother to try. Yet, you're here. With a sliver of hope, that someone on this site might understand you enough to offer some true help.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
