Whether you are dealing with OCD, anxiety, ADHD, hair pulling/ skin picking: You can do this!.
So many of us are trapped by our own fears, insecurities, and doubts. Some challenges have names such as OCD, anxiety, hair pulling, skin picking, tics, Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, or impulsive emotions. You might feel overwhelming sadness, fear in social interactions, or constant anxiety from intrusive thoughts. You may even be avoiding social interactions, struggling at work, having difficulty in personal relationships, or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. These fears might be stealing your laughter, freedom, and connection with others. In therapy I can help you or your child navigate these complex experiences.

Beginning treatment can be intimidating, if you are suffering from an anxiety, OCD, trauma, adjustment issues, or depression.
I have over 15 years of experience working with adults dealing with PTSD, anxiety, OCD and depression. I am well versed in implementing evidence based treatments to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life. I am sensitive to the struggles individuals face when suffering with anxiety, trauma, and depression. I formulate personalized treatment plans, which are grounded in scientific evidence, but adapted to the unique issues faced by my patients. My goal is to target symptoms and bring relief, not keep you in therapy for the rest of your life.

I have specialized experience in treating trauma, OCD, anxiety, and depression.
I view therapy as a place for both the patient and the therapist to be real and authentic. Therapy can be a place where we come together to listen to and honor those parts of ourselves that we cut off. Over time, as we come to acknowledge and accept those parts of self that have been left behind, we can come to feel whole again. In this way, therapy does not eliminate every pain or problem, but it is a chance for reducing unnecessary suffering while being kind to ourselves in the face of the inherent struggles of life.

Excessive worry and OCD don't have to control your life any longer.
You've started to notice your child seeking constant reassurance or engaging in repetitive behaviors, or perhaps you've noticed them avoiding social events or expressing excessive worry. Maybe you've noticed your child struggling after going through a difficult event and they are now struggling with nightmares, mood swings, and seem constantly on edge. As a parent, you're feeling lost, overwhelmed, and unsure how to help. Therapy can be the opportunity for you and your child to better understand these struggles and develop effective skills and long lasting solutions.

Life is difficult, and none of us are immune from painful events or circumstances. Day-to-day life is far more painful when we are burdened with unresolved trauma, OCD, anxiety, or grief. When facing one or more of these struggles, it can feel like we are at war with our minds and emotions. We start to see ourselves as the problems and our world gets smaller and lonelier over time. This is a scary place that breeds hopelessness, powerlessness, and shame.

I have a passion for assisting individuals and couples to find balance in their lives, develop healthy relationships, and offer healing techniques in the treatment of anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma and abuse.
Life didn't come with a manual and sometimes we find ourselves off course or stuck, unable to move forward. A sensitive and caring approach to counseling may help you discover the thoughts and beliefs that hold you back, as we utilize a cognitive behavioral approach to therapy. I say we, because cognitive behavioral therapy is a collaborative process between equals, that challenges and changes the thoughts that work to maintain depression and anxiety. My goal is to help guide you through the process of therapy, allowing you to truly heal, as you gain access to and build upon your inner resources.

I also specializes in helping those who struggle with Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, OCD, Grief and Loss.
Having struggles can be difficult, getting therapy shouldn't be. Depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict and stress are common, but can be managed. I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach, but respond to my clients' unique needs and preferences. I am not here to just talk but to help you learn how to cope during that moment and all the other moments for the rest of your life. Deseret Counseling is an outpatient therapy for adults, teenagers, children and families

I particularly enjoy helping folks work through trauma and grief, addiction/substance abuse, LGBTQ+ issues, sexual and gender identity, depression, anxiety, OCD, personality disorders, faith, and life in general.
I'm a firm believer that mental health care is for everyone, no matter what obstacles you're facing. It's my goal to normalize mental health care for all people. Just as you see a doctor multiple times per year, whether you're ill or not, proactive health care is crucial for a healthy, balanced life; the same goes for your mental health. My ideal client is any human being interested in navigating the rivers of their life, no matter the challenge(s) you're facing. My goal is to help you identify and explore your entire and true self. Together, we'll explore your past/present/future to navigate any/all issues and set realistic goals.

I am an expert in working with life long trauma or post traumatic experiences (using EMDR, brainspotting, IFS, and DNMS) and helping people learn coping skills. I also work with teens with OCD (using ERP therapy), anxiety, or depression (using ACT therapy). My clients tend to have some dysfunction in their life that they are working to resolve. My clients tend to want to improve their relationship with self and others. My clients are often too hard on themselves or stuck in a negative rut.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
