Evidence-based practice CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, ACT, Solution focus, and Spirituality faith base approach.
I have experience on working with children, families, grief, domestic violence, postpartum depression, miscarriage, and adults who have a history of trauma. I'm bicultural, bilingual (Spanish), and experience working with diverse population. I believe that everyone has a story and courage to be the best version of themselves. I chose to become a licensed clinical social worker to help people learn, provide a space to be heard, and cope. Experiences help our personal growth, and I am passionate about helping others overcome the obstacles that can otherwise feel impossible. We all have a story worth sharing.

I have used person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing.
I believe that in life we are happiest when we are experiencing growth, but so often the facts of life interfere with our ability to grow. The messages we receive from the world around us, the messages we tell ourselves, depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship difficulties, and countless other factors can impede our progress and keep us from happiness. In our work together we will build a relationship that can provide the support needed to get through these challenges. We will work together to explore what might be holding you back and identify the steps you can take to best get you where you want to go.

I am also informed in mind body bridging, TF-CBT, and motivational interviewing.
Pain from trauma does not need to rule your life, nor does trauma always come from a catastrophic event. Often my clients come to me in pain, feeling lost and suffering with symptoms of anxiety and depression. During therapy, I often hear, “I finally have space in my head to think and energy to do the things I want to do.” Therapy is at its best when you are listened to in a deeper way. I have been told by clients that they feel I “make room” for them with a kind and personal approach. Imagine yourself feeling lighter, feeling joy, and having more energy. It is possible.

I use a combination of different modalities like Motivational Interviewing, ACT, and CBT based on the needs and wants of the individuals that I meet with.
I believe that people often recognize the need for change in their lives or relationships but can be unsure of how to begin or have difficulty finding lasting motivation and energy for sustained change. It is my job to create an environment where we can explore possible solutions through the lens of non-judgment, compassion, and curiosity. I work primarily with adults and couples who are experiencing depression, anxiety, addiction, unhealthy anger, and/or relationship difficulties.

Making the decision to look for help can be difficult and where do you start? With so many therapist being listed it's hard to decide which one to choose based on a simple profile and picture. Maybe you've tried therapy in the past and found that it wasn't a very helpful endeavor for you. You still are struggling with some problems yet don't know what else to do. That's why I offer a free initial consultation. Before you spend any of your hard earned money or waste your precious time you can decide if I can be of benefit to you and your particular challenge. And if I'm not the one? I will help you find someone who is for free.

A pivotal time to try therapy is during young adulthood. It's a tough phase of life and it's not only challenging for the individual, but for their parents as well! There can be pressure in areas of sports, religion, school, and relationships, not to mention "what they're going to do with their life!" Transitioning into adulthood can be difficult, but I've seen it be a time of great progress for clients and their loved ones. I help clients find direction, learn to cope with anxiety, and find their own unique identity and strength. Don't wait too long to start living the life you want to be living.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
