Life stressors and traumatic events can cause anxiety, depression, and other uncomfortable emotions. I work with teens and adults who seek to understand the “why” of their emotions and behaviors, and move away from feeling hopeless, exhausted, or numb. We will work together to help you better understand yourself, discuss hard topics, and build skills to experience healing and growth.

I have a passion for assisting individuals and couples to find balance in their lives, develop healthy relationships, and offer healing techniques in the treatment of anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma and abuse.
Life didn't come with a manual and sometimes we find ourselves off course or stuck, unable to move forward. A sensitive and caring approach to counseling may help you discover the thoughts and beliefs that hold you back, as we utilize a cognitive behavioral approach to therapy. I say we, because cognitive behavioral therapy is a collaborative process between equals, that challenges and changes the thoughts that work to maintain depression and anxiety. My goal is to help guide you through the process of therapy, allowing you to truly heal, as you gain access to and build upon your inner resources.

I value my work with individuals who are struggling with how to manage their relationships as well as anxiety, depression, addictions, grief, past experiences and adjustments to life changes.
Do you feel like you are unable to communicate in your relationship and have the same argument over and over again? Are you feeling emotionally disconnected and no matter how hard you try you just don’t feel valued or understood? Are you feeling discouraged and losing hope in your relationship or yourself? Is there a lack of intimacy in your relationship? Nearly every relationship will experience difficulties at some point. It can be difficult to find help that will actually lead to meaningful and lasting change. The good news is that you have taken the first step by reaching out for assistance which shows great strength.

I work with teenagers and adults dealing with difficult life transitions— experiencing big emotions like depression, anxiety, even trauma to learn how to cope with these in day-to-day life. I work with people that have a tough time understanding and validating their feelings, standing-up for their needs, or with acting in a way that moves their personal life and relationships forward during debilitating thoughts, fears, or hopelessness. We work in a goal-oriented approach with weekly targets designed to move you toward your long-term goals, using the short-term goals to best get there.

I specialize in working alongside couples and adults with different concerns including anxiety, depression and interpersonal relationships.
I find people are far more capable and resilient than they realize. My approach to therapy is collaborative, eclectic and person-centered. Whether the challenge stems from anxiety, depression or conflict within your relationship, skills can be learned to navigate your life circumstance. Relationships make up the core of who we are as human beings and effort is needed to learn skills to communicate, have healthier conflict resolution or rebuild a relationship (with others and self).

I see teens, young adults, and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, individual issues within relationships, attachment difficulties, or families needing to improve interpersonal relationships.
Our lives can feel overwhelming and difficult, especially when our thoughts, relationships or behaviors are off. When we don’t feel the way we want to feel, its easy to wonder if anyone else understands where we are coming from. Our thoughts or feelings can become overwhelming and impact every other aspect of our lives. There are many things that can have great influence on how we see the world, our feelings, and our life experience. It is my goal to help each client heal from past difficulties and move forward in a positive and healthy way.

Hi! I’m Dennis. I’m here to journey with you as you face your life's challenges. My approach is 'Person-centered', meaning I believe the answers to your dilemmas are found inside you. I merely help you unlock those answers by connecting with the intuition you originally had inside you but may have lost along the way. Often to connect with our intuition, life requires us to face and overcome all our personal fears and anxieties, including the shield of anger and depression we sometimes hide behind. I practice at Insights (Insurance) and New Hope Counseling (cash pay for former clients). I am ready to listen and hear you. Come see!

Ask yourself, ‘If I could re-live the life I've been living, for eternity, would I?’ (I'm serious. Take this moment to pause and really think about that...). If your answer to that is 'no', it's time to make a change. Every day that you continue to suffer, be it from trauma, crippling anxiety, depression, or addiction, is time lost- you don't get it back. Don't put it off another day. Life is too short. Call us. We’re here to here to help, and I’m confident that, together, we can get you back to feeling hopeful and excited about life again.

I work with kids and adolescents who experience anxiety, depression, and various other mental health concerns.
I believe that mental health is an integral part of our wellbeing and should be attended to like one's own physical health. The therapeutic modalities I have experience in are trauma-focused and person-centered. I enjoy supporting children ages 6 to 18 years old to improve their mental health and heal psychological wounds.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
