I have an affinity for working with individuals who are longing for change, meaningful connection, and internal safety. Many have gone through life feeling unseen, at the mercy of, or in the shadows of others making it difficult to establish boundaries, self-compassion, and authentic connection. If you can relate and are having a difficult time with anxiety, depression, complex trauma/developmental trauma, ADHD, Adult Autism Spectrum, religious/spiritual wounding, sexuality, and/or other situations that have left you feeling disconnected from the life you want to live, you are not alone, it can be different.

I specialize in working with issues of ADHD and ADD; academic achievement and work performance; and related issues, such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.
The problems we face can often become entangled with our perception of self. We have an opportunity to define our problems as separate and external to ourselves. "You are not the problem; the problem is the problem."

I work with people struggling with ADHD, processing difficulties, other learning disabilities, and correlated issues of self-esteem.
Let’s face it. Our children are facing an ever-growing, chaotic world and are often ill equipped to deal with the challenges they are facing. As a parent are you feeling lost and unsure as to how to help? Does your teenager or young adult cringe when you as a parent mention seeing a therapist? Young people could care less about theory, modality, and technique. They need connection, empathy and trust in a “professional” if progress is to be made. Resistance to help? Great. This is my jam, it’s my passion.

My abilities & empathy work best with those carrying current & past traumas including first responders and veterans, adult & teen ADHD, couples counseling, faith crises as well young adulthood challenges.
Every person (including you!) has value and worth. It doesn’t matter who you are, how old you are, what you have done, or what has happened to you. You are valuable, just because you are here. Secondly, know that your life has value and a meaning – even when you are in pain. Many of us at various times of life need a little extra help-whether to process “stuff” that happened, or to figure out why we do what we do – I have a lifetime of experiences and training to help you do just that!

You may even be avoiding social interactions, struggling at work, having difficulty in personal relationships, or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. These fears might be stealing your laughter, freedom, and connection with others. In therapy I can help you or your child navigate these complex experiences.

I also have experience working with individuals with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and OCD, and am in training for EMDR.
One of my all-time favorite quotes is “broken crayons still color”. To understand that you can feel broken and still have value is vital. It means that your worthiness is not based upon the things that have happened to you. Nor is it based upon your mistakes, your outward appearance, or your lack of friendships. The list goes on and on. My personal belief of worthiness means that it applies to ALL and bears no cost, much like the concept of grace. This is a belief I try to bring into all my sessions.

Individuals seeking treatment for ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders often have co-occuring mood and anxiety disorders. My approach to therapy is centered around the individual experience of each client. Every client has a different story, and I see it as my job to cater treatment to that story. Treatment methods may include Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, CBT, parts work, and mindfulness.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
