I often utilize CBT, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic and other evidence-based practices to meet each client where they are at in their mental health journey.
Has anxiety left you feeling stuck? Do you worry about things that are out of your control? I am passionate about working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depressive disorders. I enjoy connecting with others and talking them through the ups and downs of life's everyday stressors, as well as drawing connections between past and present experiences. I am a "realist" in that I act like myself in sessions, not like the stuffy armchair psychotherapist you might imagine from movies.

How can we expect to run, if we have not yet learned to walk? All too often, we place pressure, self-doubt, fear, and beat ourselves up physically, emotionally, and mentally when we falter and fail in life’s pursuit. No matter the circumstances, at some point, we need someone to walk or wheel alongside us in our journey. As a multi-cultural, differently abled, first-generation immigrant Latina therapist, I take pride in being trauma-informed and understanding the intersectionality that individuals from all walks of life encounter. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, & empowering space for my clients to confront their problems.

The great news is that real healing is possible — working with a trusted therapist can provide enormous, long-lasting relief. I believe in building a strong alliance with my clients, creating a safe environment to process trauma, anxiety, sadness, loss, or relationship issues.

If you’re reading this, give yourself some credit for making it this far. Asking for help isn’t easy. I know because I’ve been there. I know how scary and intimidating therapy can be. But it doesn’t have to be. What if therapy was less about sitting on a couch, and more about empowering you by focusing on your strengths and interests? What if therapy was less about knowing all of the answers, less about fixing you, and more about learning how to reconnect? Therapy with me is inviting and warm, and my clients leave me knowing they aren't alone. They leave knowing that even when life is complicated, they can learn to ride the wave.

Email is best for contact, calling may delay response time. I see clients in WA and OR some in person, mostly virtual. My ideal client...might have anxiety, dealing with relational issues, struggling with depression, might feel isolated or lonely or might need support in other areas of life. My clients might be somewhat scared to approach change and some may be goal oriented. Some clients that I see might struggle to really know the path they wish to take or how to begin their therapeutic journey. My client/s may wish to work on self care and self love and integrate that in each of their personal goals. My clients are resilient.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
