Substance misuse, trauma, identity concerns, men's issues, depression, anxiety, adjustment issues. These are just a few of the issues I specialize in working with in my practice. I have had 8 plus years working with adolescents and adults in various settings. My approach is a humanistic, client-centered, somatic and trauma focused approach. I am trained in EMDR and Brainspottting. I try and create an environment/therapuetic alliance that is relaxed, humorous yet confrontational and free of therapeutic jargon so that my clients can be authentic.

Trauma is stored in your body; leaving your nervous system unexplored in resiliency to stay present with past traumas that need to be processed.
SEP Somatic Experiencing Practitioner helping clients who have tried traditional therapy, yet continue to suffer from unresolved normalized & developmental trauma, emotional distress, faith transition, codependency & attachment. I specialize in modernized therapeutic interventions using an integrated approach. I feel it is important to understand how the past impacts the present, allowing the subconscious presence for reprocessing. I understand that making life changes can feel overwhelming-even if you've been in therapy before. I want to put you at ease and make this as easy as possible. First, I'd like to get to know each other and build trust. I'll explain a variety of therapies that might be a good match for you; people do best when they chose their own treatment. Next, we'll practice new strategies, based in research, to create the life you want. I'll guide you through a process of change tailored to fit your particular identities and background (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, religious affiliation, US native or non-native, etc.).

Gay and lesbian people face difficult intersections between sexual diversity; trauma; religion, faith and spirituality; and conflicting cultural and relational demands. Stress, hypervigilance, shame, anxiety, depression and mental confusion are very common among the people I see. But you have an amazing ability to heal, grow, and thrive if given the right support.

I have spent my career working to help people heal from trauma, addiction, abuse, neglect, and associated familial issues.
Few things in life are as hard as asking for help. This is especially true if you aren't quite sure what to ask for or how to ask. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe that the problems we face are influenced not only by what is happening with us, but also within our relationships with others. Our connections and relationships are important to us and our individual mental and emotional health. So whether I am working with just one person, a couple, or a family, it is not about taking sides, villainizing, victimizing, or blaming. It is about healing, empowering, and recovery.

I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) along with other evidence-based practices to help people develop tools and strategies to decrease symptoms related to anxiety, trauma and addiction.
I've heard of people reaching out for help, but they've had to wait on a waitlist for months. I will return your inquiries within 24 hours and we can setup our first meeting within one (1) week. However, I only see people via telehealth, and I don't take any insurances. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, infidelity and trust issues, men's issues, coping with addictions, relationship issues, & trauma and abuse. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts, feelings, and any other issues of concern can be shared without fear of judgment.

My experience spans many years working with anxiety, depression, OCD, addictions, personality disorders, eating disorders, profound grief/loss, single episode and complex PTSD.
My primary goal is to help restore the power of the individual, to the individual. It is difficult to create ourselves to our true self until we uncreate the thinking and believing that is causing our distress because "whatever we resist, persists." To empower those I work with to see acceptance as a possible way out of their distress by realizing their true control in any given situation. This begins to uncreate the old thinking and responses that lead to further distress. To help those heal to freedom by removing danger, not increasing it, by providing effective tools of creation through improved thought, word and action.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
