Religious trauma. Spiritual abuse. Religious deconstruction. Recovery from purity culture. I have specialized in women with complex trauma for the last eight years, and in the last few years have added a religious trauma certification (from GCRR) to my list of specialties. Like other forms of trauma, religious trauma often manifests as anxiety, depression, and troubled relationships. I mostly work with women, but I am an ally to the LGBTQ community as well. My goal for my clients is to help them untangle the web of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that keep them feeling stuck.

Life can be hard with feelings of depression, anxiety, addiction, and trauma. I know that it can often feel overwhelming, and it is easy to feel stuck. I also know that by being heard and validated, by learning new strategies to cope, and by understanding how trauma impacts each of us, that life can get better and can be rewarding. You don't have to be defined by your past and there is always hope for better days. At Best Life Therapy I want to help you understand who you are, that you have value, and that you matter.

Our relationships matter more than anything else in life. For you, this may (or may not) include a spouse or partner, children, friends, community and/or a relationship with a higher power. These kinds of meaningful connections are imperative to our happiness and well-being. The key? Thriving relationships require a healthy relationship with yourself. With compassion, kindness, and a hint of humor, I can guide you in building a better understanding of the unique person you are, help you identify what you want and need, teach you skills and strategies for success, and support you in personal transformation.

We need a space to explore this. Golden Horse Counseling’s purpose is to create a space for healing, a place where we can learn to fully connect to ourselves. Our intent is never to fix our clients' problems but rather to provide a space where they can explore and create lasting change. One of my deepest held beliefs is that, in general, everyone is doing the best they can in life with what they currently believe to be true. Rather than feeling judged or ashamed of one's personal life struggles, people need to feel supported through being offered new ideas and by being reminded of their own inborn, unwavering worth. In my therapy practice, I strive to help others reconnect with that worth and with their own personal value system that their hearts know to be true. We are all students of life and we are all still learning.

I know that sometimes in life we reach a point where we feel stuck, but there is hope. My ideal patient is focused upon personal growth and healing. Whether it’s depression, anxiety, trauma recovery, couples and marriage concerns, OCD, among other issues we face in life, therapy can help. You don't have to do this alone. You are probably looking for a way to break these patterns, and there is. I help clients work through trauma and leave the unhealthy patterns that may have been useful for them in the past, but are now getting in the way of the life they want to live.

Hello, My name is Liliana and I work at Utah Lakes Neuroscience Mental Health Center, where we take an integrative approach to Mental Health and Trauma Therapy. Do you feel lost, lonely, scared, helpless? Have you had enough BIG reactions to little events that just leave you feeling so heavy and defeated. Does it all begin with an endless pit in your stomach, or your heart racing so fast you think you're going to spin out of control. Can you feel it right now as you read this? Are you wanting for someone to give you answers, understand you, or just listen without judgement, or preconceived ideas of who you are?

Hi, my name is Tina and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT). I have always felt that being deeply listened to and understood is one of life’s best gifts. As your therapist I am here to truly listen and understand your unique challenges. I am also here to sift out what it is that you would most want from therapy. Your challenges and your wishes are as unique as your fingerprints. Maybe you're struggling with a seemingly unsolvable problem, or a repeating pattern of behavior. I work with individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed, sad, angry, hurt, hopeless, unlovable, devastated etc.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
