Hello, my name is Elyssa. I love working with people struggling with trauma, stress, anxiety, and depression. I also specialize in treating individuals with borderline personality disorder and complex PTSD. I believe in empowering and encouraging people to become the best version of themselves. I provide a stable and safe environment for people to explore and overcome their current and past challenges. I do this by being compassionate, nonjudgmental and direct with each of my clients. I believe that there is no 'right way' to achieve your goals, which is why I take an individualized approach to each person that I work with.

OCD and anxiety related disorders can feel like a game of whack a mole in which after solving one worry another one pops up quickly to replace it. For an individual suffering from one of these disorders and their loved ones this game can feel exhausting, frustrating, and impossible to win. Similarly, living with chronic illness(es) can feel like a never ending game of whack a mole with frequent appointments, unrelenting symptoms, changes in physical abilities and all the stress that navigating the healthcare system brings. With extensive experiences with these diagnoses I provide both individual and group therapy in Idaho and Utah.

I believe in therapy! That is why I have worked with people for more than forty years and have many satisfied clients. You can have a great life no matter the issues and feelings you currently have. This possibility may be hard to imagine now, but that is what I help you do. My job is to help you clarify what you want and then to achieve this. Under stress we can all become confused about what path to take, but this is what you come to therapy to discover. With encouragement and support, you can learn to trust your path and solve whatever your current problems are. I work with women, men and couples who want to feel better.

My passion for ending suffering in the world began when I was a little girl and my dad read to me the story of “The Little Match Girl” by Hans Christian Andersen. I can still see my little hands reaching out to that little girl who was hungry, cold, and forgotten. I have witnessed much suffering over the years which has deepened my desire to help others. I have worked with indigenous women in the jungles of Costa Rica and Guatemala, assisting them feed their children and empowering them through micro-loans. I have spent time on the streets of Birmingham helping the forgotten homeless, those suffering from AIDS, and drug addictions.

Immediate openings are available. I treat depression, trauma, anxiety, substance use, and grief. One specialty is betrayal trauma: for partners of those who have a pornography addiction, are sexually acting out, or an affair has taken place. This can lead to feelings of anger, confusion, and shock. That is a great time to get into therapy to navigate the big emotions and find how to honor yourself and your needs moving forward. I can collaborate with you in setting healthy boundaries, finding your voice, and advocating for yourself. Working through a disclosure process is challenging. I am ready to support you in that process.

Therapist focusing on trauma, skill building, and mediation. I believe mental health is simple, yet it can be frustrating because it is also complex. Too often we look for magical or quick fixes for problems when the solutions are very common. Usually it is a number of things that create the problem, not just one contributor and often our society treats the symptom not the cause. As a society we should be focusing on preventative health, getting in front of the problem, and not waiting until it has already occurred to seek help. Having said that... there is always a solution, it just may not be what you expected.
