I use a conglomerate of EMDR, ACT, IFS and Systems theory to help cultivate internal wholeness.
Through my therapeutic experience, I have found it useful to view trauma as a set of beliefs grown so thick, all one can see is browns and greens in the entrapping growth. Unexamined, internal, and often unconscious beliefs manifest in a myriad of ways: anxiety, depression, suicidal and/or obsessive thoughts, compulsive action, etc. If you are a person, or in a relationship, feeling stuck and bogged down internally, this is a strong indication there are internal beliefs needing closer attention and examination. From major trauma to family relationships to faith crisis, let's take a deeper look together.

) with EMDR.
People rarely come to therapy on a whim. Usually, there has been much deliberation and agonizing before an appointment is made. I have been working with people in a mentoring/coaching/therapy capacity for over 25 years and I know it is scary to begin a relationship with someone you don't know. I try to make it easier by being approachable and straightforward; Solas, my dog is there to engage as much or little as you wish. The consistent feedback I get from my clients and those I mentor is that they feel heard, honored, valued and safe.

Trauma therapy requires an arsenal of approaches: Trauma-Focused Therapy, EMDR, Trauma Conversion Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Christian Counseling, etc.
Most people know that big traumas, like being chased by a bear or an IRS agent, can lead to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However, few people know that repeated exposure to small traumas can lead to Complex PTSD—a potentially more debilitating diagnosis. Even mild but repeated abuse or neglect can lead to: anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD personality disorders (narcissistic or borderline), attachment, interpersonal problems, (marital and employment), chronic pain, physical disability, anger, sleep issues, self-sabotage and many more. Furthermore, if you are blessed with a highly sensitive personality, the trauma is amplified.

I am trained in two forms of trauma therapy: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy), and I have a background in EFT for couples (Emotionally Focused therapy).
For November and December, I'm offering a free intake session to young couples looking for premarital therapy or have been married for 5 years or less. When life gets difficult, I’ve found two heads are better than one for growth and healing. I enjoy using a larger team with my dog, Solas. I can also provide equestrian sessions in the summer where you can engage with horses in a therapeutic setting. Whether you are coming in as a couple, individual or a family - I can help you navigate: anxiety, depression, conflict, boundaries, spirituality, sexual abuse, men’s issues, self esteem, and emotional regulation.

I have unique and focused experiences in working with children, and I am trained in EMDR.
I realize coming to therapy can be difficult. Thus, my therapy office is a safe and nonjudgmental place. I love working with children, and I value EMDR’s effectiveness in providing results. Other populations I work with include those experiencing issues with trauma, anxiety, depression, loss, eating disorders, geriatric issues, TBI, and more. I am committed to helping my clients process their trauma and progress on their healing journey, and I understand the complicated nature of family dynamics. I work hard to ensure that all family members feel supported in the treatment process.

I truly enjoy working with people of all ages and seeing how they grow and change. We all run into times of crisis or struggle and whether it is something that requires intensive work or maybe seems quite small, there is hope for the future. I have experience working with children in play therapy, and teens and adults using an eclectic and person centered approach including CBT, ACT, psychoanalysis, DBT, as well as other modalities. I am one of three therapists in the area that have been trained in Trauma Conversion Therapy which is amazing for trauma, anxiety, depression, and OCD.

I help couples and families feel more connected when life unfolds in unexpected ways. Feelings of disconnection often occur when stress piles up. Sometimes our lives are turned upside-down in an instant. I believe we all experience times when life feels bigger than our ability to cope.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
