I have received extensive post graduate training in EMDR with children, Parent/Child Interaction Therapy, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Masters of Education in School Psychology in 1994 and with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2003. As part of that training, I completed a doctoral level internship in clinical child psychology at Primary Children's Hospital. Since then, I have worked in a variety of settings, specializing in child psychology. The majority of my clinical experience has been in working with children who have been traumatized, but I feel comfortable treating the entire range of childhood psychiatric disorders. Overall, I have been working with emotionally/behaviorally challenged children for over 25 years.

I work with adolescents and adults with a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, academic and/or occupational challenges, relationship issues, woman’s issues and domestic violence.
My goal is to assist you in reaching your full potential so that you are able to live your most fulfilling life. I recognize that each person is unique and there is no “one-size fits all” approach to therapy, so I use an individualized, person-centered approach in working with my clients. We will work together to navigate life’s challenges and create a collaborative treatment plan by building upon your own natural strengths and resilience. I have experience working with a variety of different therapeutic models, and I primarily utilize a cognitive behavioral or dialectical behavioral approach in my work with clients.

At times you may feel broken. You’re different and as much as you try, you don’t feel like you fit in. You don’t even know where to begin but you are hoping to find healing and maybe even looking for a change. If any of this sounds familiar, you might be experiencing some kind of life transition, trauma, anxiety, or depression. It can be incredibly challenging and exhausting to face the mix of emotions and thoughts alone. You can find a safe space here and I will fully accept you as you are. Together we can explore ways to help you find the kind of life you want and deserve. I’d love to work with you and be a part of your journey.

We all experience life’s journey in unique ways. In every path we come across obstacles, form relationships, experience loss, misunderstanding, confusion, anger, and dismay. But we also experience happiness, hope, love and connection. We use these experiences to make meaning and find purpose. However, we, our relationships, and this world are constantly changing. It can be hard to communicate our true meaning or trust that when we do, we will be heard.

I utilize emotion-focused therapy, EMDR, and IFS-influenced approaches to help you explore patterns and trauma from your past that are holding you back and to help you identify new patterns to propel you forward.
You’re tired of fighting against yourself and of getting in your own way. Whether you're reliving difficult events from the past, becoming discouraged when you can’t meet your own expectations, or feeling like you ignore your own needs in your relationships, you can’t help but blame yourself. You find yourself to be successful in many facets of your life but you struggle to make changes in the areas that count.

In the past, I have worked with those who are struggling with anxiety, life adjustments, attachment, ADHD, depression, and trauma by utilizing modalities such as CBT, DBT, and SFT.
Finding a therapist can be difficult. Whether you are seeking someone to help you become a better you, or just someone to vent to, I can help you work toward identifying and celebrating the strengths that will empower you to become the best version of yourself that you can be. This is why I firmly believe that anyone can benefit from therapy.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
