Have you been struggling with the same problems, thoughts, or feelings for weeks, months, or even years and can't seem to get them under control? Are your intimate, social, and work relationships being affected by reoccurring problems and thoughts? It's very frustrating when your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are not in line with your values and who you want to be. You know that if you could just learn to let go of the past and focus on the present, then your life and relationships will improve; but you just don't know how. Is there hope?

I work with couples and families who need help with change. After you have 'tried everything' but it still hasn't worked, come see me for a different approach to resolving problems that you face. I have worked in mental health for 18 years and LDS Family Services for 10 years, and now in private practice for the last 9 years. With my experience I can treat any marital problems you might be facing, and any major mental health problem or sexually addictive behavior problem. My motto is "Change for the Better" because I believe that therapy should help you make the changes in your life that make a difference.

Life is too short to surrender to letting adversity, trauma, bad relationships, grudges etc... control us; or be anxious/angry all the time. With over 12 years as a clinician, military veteran and retired law enforcement officer, I have been fortunate to be trusted in working with individuals, couples and families as they find answers, healing, understanding or resolve through painful and desperate situations. Empowering them to create resilience and healing in the rest of their story.

I like to use DBT for things like managing emotions and relationship conflicts.
Your time is valuable, so let's keep it simple. Are you happy? Where do you want to be in a year from now, or perhaps five? Let's talk about relationships. It can be as easy as learning communication skills, managing emotions, and setting boundaries. Do you ask yourself, I want to be vulnerable I just don't know how? It can be scary, but once you understand how to truly open up, you will begin to see your true identity. It is possible.

Why can't you just quit?! You've asked yourself this question so many times. Struggling with an addiction is exhausting. Despite the guilt and shame, the constant promises to yourself and others that this is the last time, the final "one," you find yourself back in the cycle of your same behaviors over and over again. Each time, you feel a little less hope you will ever be able to make lasting change. You have the best of intentions, you have the desire, you've made the promises to yourself and others. Now what?

If you listen to biohacking podcasts or read holistic health blogs and are frustrated with your chronic depression, stress, or anxiety, I may be the therapist for you! The body, mind, and spirit are so closely connected that it doesn't make sense to only focus on one aspect and expect sustainable change. Conventional therapy generally focuses on only the mind. It can still be helpful, but what if you could go deeper for longer-lasting relief? What about underlying conditions that might be perpetuating that low-level depression or anxiety, such as nutrient deficiencies?

As a husband, father, and hu man-in-training, I have dedicated my life to understanding how hu mans thrive – let me put my expertise to work for you.
Does it seem that you and your partner have become strangers, maybe even enemies? Are you tired of things never really changing? Do mental health concerns seem to be robbing you of your ability to do what you care about? Or are you a parent worried about your child and wanting help before things get worse? As hu mans, we are are built for connection. From the cradle to the grave, we thrive when we have someone who sees and understands us. When we lack that connection, it literally hurts. We cope with the pain in a hundred different ways, but nothing seems to do more than take the edge off.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
