My clinical experience working with troubled youth, eating disorders, anxiety related issues, autism spectrum disorders, as well as long standing work with pornography addiction set me apart in the field.
Over the past 19 years as a clinician, I have developed a passion for helping individuals and families improve their lives. I specialize in working with individuals struggling with high anxiety and OCD issues, depressive symptomology, trauma, eating disorders, and sexual addiction. I’ve worked extensively with individuals dealing with pre and post missionary service issues as well as a great deal of time working with neurodiverse/autism spectrum issues and helping these individuals and families navigate their challenges. With my experience and skillset as a therapist, I look forward to helping my clients walk the road of healing.

Specifically those on the autism spectrum.
In a session with me, you can expect a safe, nonjudgmental space where you and I collaborate to determine what will best work for you. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my approach, which means the questions I ask you are meant to help you think differently. My master’s degree is in Rehabilitation Counseling from Utah State University, which gives me unique insight into working with clients with disabilities or chronic illness. I enjoy working with all age groups - children, teens, or adults. I’m especially passionate in working with neurodivergent clients (i.e. autism, ADHD, OCD, etc) to navigate their unique life experiences.

Most of my experience thus far has been with children and adolescents, frequently with a focus on learning distress tolerance and coping skills, as well as processing trauma. I do the same work with adults, but it usually involves less stuffed animals. I can help with anxiety and depression, as well as ADHD, Autism, and Borderline Personality Disorder in various age groups, LGBTQIA2+ individuals/families, foster/adoptive families, and consensually non-monogamous/polyamorous relationship dynamics.

I specialize in Bipolar disorder, ADHD, Autism, Depression, and Anxiety.
I specialize in working with people that struggle with feeling inadequate and undeserving of love. Self-destructive cycles may be the result of such and I can help break those with my experiences in similar patterns. I am mindful of the person in their environment with my approach as we didn't create all of our problems and yet we get to solve them anyway. I hope to support healthy self-care, boundaries, and more effective interpersonal interactions. I believe it is important to adjust behavior, thinking patterns, and beliefs that may hinder your path toward your greater long-term joy.

Connection is a basic human need. Every person deserves at least one place where they can go, say what is on their mind, and not be judged. People have a right to be listened to, supported, and advocated for. If you are struggling, I invite you to participate in therapy. Experience the healing that comes from human connection in a judge-free supportive environment. I have been a practicing mental health therapist for the past 9 years. As a therapist, I can help clients meet their goals by actively listening to their needs and understanding their unique perspectives. This involves creating a safe and non-judgmental space where clients feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings. By employing empathetic listening, I can identify their underlying concerns and aspirations, which allows me to tailor therapeutic interventions to their specific situations. Additionally, I will collaboratively set realistic and attainable goals with the clients, ensuring that these objectives are aligned with their values and desires.

Choosing to go to therapy and finding the right therapist can be difficult. Especially when life feels overwhelming and you don’t know where to begin. Therapy is a great place to start working towards your goals and to gain support where you need it. I fell in love with being a therapist and watching a person become a healthier version of themselves, no matter what that looks like. I want to create a warm and welcoming environment for all who choose to come to therapy.

I realize coming to therapy can be difficult. Thus, my therapy office is a safe and nonjudgmental place. I love working with children, and I value EMDR’s effectiveness in providing results. Other populations I work with include those experiencing issues with trauma, anxiety, depression, loss, eating disorders, geriatric issues, TBI, and more. I am committed to helping my clients process their trauma and progress on their healing journey, and I understand the complicated nature of family dynamics. I work hard to ensure that all family members feel supported in the treatment process.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
