This type of therapy was originally written for Borderline Personality Disorder clients.
I offer a simple therapeutic approach for mental health issues. Dialectical Behavior Therapy gives you the freedom to be who you are as well as accepting others for who they are. Learning to control your emotions is unbelievably life changing. My clients have made so many changes in their communication, anger control, letting go of the past, and living in the present. Taking responsibility for your behaviors, not giving others permission to control how you feel, and learning how to love yourself first will make a tremendous impact for a positive change in your life. I look forward to talking with you. Carpe Diem

I am experienced in treating anxiety, depression, self-worth issues, trauma, perfectionism, and borderline personality disorder.
I believe that despite life’s challenges, and often because of them, every individual has their own unique strengths and capabilities. Every individual has worth and purpose. Our own difficult life circumstances or misperceptions can sometimes mask these truths, but I seek to help my clients remember and internalize them. Hope and healing can be found by drawing on the strengths within!

In the counseling field I'm not sure if there is an "ideal client," However, I do believe there is an ideal therapist for every client. So, the question is, am I the ideal therapist for you? I have worked with many issues; however, have found that my specialties are in the areas of trauma (PTSD), personality disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, addictions and eating disorders. The "fix you;" therapy is not something I do, as there is no "fixing" to be done. I will help you to identify: needs and goals, internal healing, and that all important balance that you seek. If this is for you then so am I.

I believe every woman, man and child has infinite value and worth. Whether we have experienced feelings of worthlessness because of our own actions or because of the actions of others, developing self-love is the pathway toward true joy. When we experience trauma, we develop false ideas about ourselves and the world that keep us in a place of fear, anger, and hopelessness. We make decisions based on those beliefs that cause ourselves and others despair. When we learn to love ourselves completely, we can find true healing within ourselves and the world in a deeply powerful way.

I find a significant importance in helping individuals of any kind identify their worth. Everyone deserves to feel and be their best selves. My goal is to help my clients instill the hope that they have the capability of getting to that point. Shame, guilt, negative self-talk, and trauma are some of the many barriers that prevent us from living to our full potential. When someone is ready and willing to add to their self-care tool belt, it provides an opportunity to heal from their adversities and strengthen their love for the self.

Many people hold trauma from the past, which develops into negative core beliefs. These beliefs, when not explored and processed, can result in life choices that are not always the healthiest or most positive for continued growth. We will work together to process the trauma and allow you to live your most fulfilled and happy life. Together we can look at issues such as anxiety, grief, depression, and anger to pinpoint the cause of these painful emotions and work together to develop a new way of addressing these issues.

My purpose in working with clients, metaphorically speaking, is not to command another person's vessel; rather, to serve as a trusted navigator through uncertain waters. I support and protect my client's autonomy and purpose in discovering the best version of themselves through objectivity, self-discovery, and occasional service as a devil's advocate, if necessary; for example, "admit that you are weak... And then prove yourself wrong. Purposely and with passion."

Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.

What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?

Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.

What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?

DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.

What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?

The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
