I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor in Florida, who believes in providing clients with a safe space to fully express themselves while gaining clarity. For the past 6 years, I have been working with adults and adolescents who need assistance with depression, anxiety, stress, and anger management. My goal is to collaboratively work with individuals on their treatment goals, which will be the priority throughout treatment. In order to create lasting change, I believe we must first create awareness of what we are experiencing and why. I utilize the best therapy modalities that meet the clients' individual needs.

Many people come to my office saying: "Nothing ever changes in my life"; "I'm not good enough" or “I feel so alone” or simply feeling like day-to-day life isn't aligning with the life they envisioned. Depression, anxiety, and difficulty regulating emotions can add to the stresses of everyday life. I offer genuine acceptance and connection in a way that allows for us to understand, and work with emotions, empowering you to navigate life as your true self.

If you are feeling sad, or lonely, or misunderstood, it can be part of the stress of life, or it can be symptoms of a mental health condition. It is not easy to step up and look for help, but if you want to feel better, confident, positive and respected, you need to make the first step for your recovery. Si te sientes desanimado/a o incomprendido, puede ser parte del estres de la vida cotidiana, or tal vez puede ser un sintoma de un problema emocional. A veces no es facil buscar ayuda, pero recuerda que el primer paso es vital.

I believe effective therapy involves having a rapport with the client, where the client and therapist work together to improve understanding of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I believe that the client has the power to succeed inside. They just need to be given the proper tools. Clients will be better able to handle things like anxiety, depression, and even past trauma during their time in therapy. I believe life is a journey. At some points its trails are filled with switchbacks that are mostly uphill, and sometimes you just feel stuck on the trail and not sure where to go. Clients do not have to travel alone.

I have both personal and professional experience related to depression, anxiety, complex trauma, addiction, and life transitions. I feel that it is vital to understand how our past experiences impact our present way of functioning. I value supporting clients in increasing the awareness of their thoughts, emotions + what is happening within their bodies - as a way to honor these sensations and metabolize their distress. I hold space for clients as they process what they need, and help them connect to the answers within, trusting their own inner healing intelligence. I am not taking new clients, but I am supervising staff that are.

It is so hard to watch someone you care about suffering. You want to get them back to feeling like themselves again. Your child, teen, or young adult will receive expert guidance and support as they face the challenges of trauma, depression, and anxiety. This hard time they are going through right now will not define them.

Some issues have included adolescent behavior concerns, sexual misconduct, depression, trauma and loss, pornography and family difficulties straining marital relationships.
One of the most challenging and stressful things we face in life are the emotional and behavioral problems of our children. These difficulties impact not only the success of the child but the overall happiness within our home, our marital relationships and life itself can become wearisome and unmanageable. We may begin to wonder if there is “hope” for improvement or even may feel like “what’s wrong with us.” In the effort to find relief or comfort, we may find ourselves drawn to self-defeating and even destructive behaviors that offer immediate yet temporary relief. There are other options. I offer just this to my clients.

Stress, self-doubt, and worry can be difficult enough to manage on our own when things are "normal," but when you add the impact of the recent events our society is dealing with they can seem overwhelming. Whether a teenager or an adult, stress and trauma can make us question who we are and what's important to us. Negative emotions and thoughts get in the way of our relationships with other people and make us feel like we aren't able to be the person we want to be. Therapy can be a wonderful tool to help you make changes which bring more control and confidence in to your life.

Ever wish you could just feel better? There’s nothing terribly wrong, but activities you used to enjoy are no longer working for you. It’s hard to stay focused with all the worrying and repetitive thoughts. Maybe the days are all laced with a little sadness. You’re not sure you can remember ever really feeling good, but it seems to be getting worse. Maybe you’ve started drinking, eating, shopping, or smoking more than you would like. All your will power just can’t quiet your mind or stop the yearning for something or someone you know is not good for you. That's a lot of downward energy ... same is true when you start getting better!

My interest in therapy developed as a young adult when I began therapy myself. My personal struggles over the years have helped me understand how important non-judgement is in therapy and how beneficial this resource can be. Change is difficult. Opening up is difficult. There is no one size fits all method to accomplish your goals and work through your issues, so I strive to create a personalized approach that best fits you. I am a research-informed, client-centered therapist. Clients often tell me that I balance compassion and directness well. I will meet you where you are at and empower you to continue on your journey to healing.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
