I dedicate my practice to working with individuals and couples navigating difficulties in their relationships, as well as those coping with family of origin dysfunction, anxiety, perfectionism, poor body image, depression, overwhelm and perinatal mental health. As a therapist, my mission is to support clients in creating more peace and joy in their lives. I help clients by helping them better understand and improve how they show up in their lives and relationships. This can help you learn how to thrive, rather than just get by, regardless of the challenges you face.

Human connection is a fundamental aspect of well-being. Your ability to connect within relationships can be hindered for multiple reasons which can affect your well-being, and create confusion, anxiety, and depression. You may be limited by how you are seeing a situation. One of the greatest benefits of connection to your own internal world and connection to others is the safety it can create to explore and enjoy life. I specialize in healing relationships and unblocking areas that contribute to disconnect within oneself and within your relationships using Family Systems Theory, CBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and mindfulness.

No guilt, no blame, no shame. If you examine your life journey, you will most likely find that you are where you are for a reason and that reason has nothing to do with fate, destiny, or even luck. If you aren't satisfied with where your life is headed, I believe you have the power and ability to change it. I have experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. As a 20 year military veteran with multiple deployments I have insight and experience working with combat related Post Traumatic Stress and Military Family Life issues. I am also licensed to provide video and phone service for clients living in Idaho.

I've seen how when one person is struggling in a family, everyone can feel it. I use relationships and effective communication to help people express their feelings and better their connections to find peace and happiness as they learn to navigate their emotions and hardships in life. Healing can happen, and it often comes through finding unity with others and within.

You can live a life that is meaningful to you while staying connected to your family, culture, and society.
Clients I often work with look at their life and think, is this really all there is? They want to live a more authentic and meaningful life but it feels impossible. They may think, feel, and see the world differently than their culture, society, family, and/or religion. This often causes distress in relationships, turmoil within themself, and disconnection and isolation from the world around them. They may engage in unhealthy coping skills such as lashing out in anger, school or work avoidance, addiction, and disengagement from social life and family. If this sounds familiar I can help.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
