My work is informed by queer, feminist, and transformative justice principles, and draws on use of a creative blend of therapies to support YOUR healing process, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy (ISTT), Parts Work/Ego State Therapy, and Feminist Multicultural Therapy (FMT).
I value creating an affirming space with and for adults who have experienced chronic, complex stress and traumas, such as sexual and domestic abuse, religious trauma/LDS faith transitions, attachment and intergenerational trauma, and discrimination and oppression. The residues of these experiences can leave us stuck in perfectionism, people pleasing, depression, anxiety, and disconnection from ourselves and the world. I know the importance of finding a good fit with a therapist with whom you can feel both connected to and challenged by, who will respect you as a whole human, and who will bring a collaborative approach to therapy.

In the face of difficulties, pain, changes, and mental health issues, it is my firm belief that all of us need to be heard in order to heal. Being heard allows us to gain wider perspective, to be safe enough to feel our hard feelings, and to be open to learning new ways to meet our challenges head on and come through as the person we want to be. My goal as a therapist is to really hear you without agenda, and offer that care and support that you need. To help achieve that I use narrative, internal family systems, CBT, and DBT therapies.

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” I always tell my clients that if they take anything away from therapy, let it be to know that no relationship is more important than the relationship you have with yourself. With this mindset, I become an ally to help my clients set goals and address various issues while building self love, empowerment and compassion. I work well with client that are ready to do the hard work of therapy and I do everything in my power to make sure they know how strong and supported they are for doing doing this. Therapy isn't easy and together we got this!

Are you struggling to create the adventurous, meaningful life you imagined, free of anxiety, depression and irritability? I work with ambitious, professional women who want to have better boundaries, healthier relationships and improved self-esteem. My clients reduce people-pleasing behaviors, stabilize their mood and experience greater confidence as they navigate life's seasons and transitions (including motherhood, faith crisis, divorce, loss and much more). Together, we set an expectation that you'll not only be coping better, but having to cope less as we get to the root of the issue with weekly therapy sessions.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
