Although each human experience and journey is unique, they are closely intertwined with others. Most of the struggles that a person seeks therapeutic services for are not isolated to them, one situation, nor issue. I truly seek a holistic and eclectic approach allowing for individualized care that can have a greater impact in providing hope and change. Through my training and various experiences, I have found many innovative ways in treating families, adults, adolescents, young adults, and couples that are struggling with: depression, anxiety, addiction, family discord, grief, mental and behavioral issues, and failure to launch.

I work with children ages 5-12 years old, who deal with a variety of issues, including trauma, grief, anger issues, depression, anxiety and/or ADHD. Therapy goals of children may include staying out of trouble with their parents or teachers. Parents often want to reduce angry outbursts and increase compliance of their children. Both children and parents look to therapy to help develop skills to manage emotions and improve relationships.

I have worked extensively with children and adolescents in and out of residential treatment with attachment issues, defiance, substance abuse, mood disorders, and anger management difficulties.
At times life can be difficult and we may seek professional help. During these times, you need a person who helps you to feel safe as you work through the trials you may face and help you become empowered. My office is very warm and comforting as we work together through difficulties that arise.

Clients I often work with look at their life and think, is this really all there is? They want to live a more authentic and meaningful life but it feels impossible. They may think, feel, and see the world differently than their culture, society, family, and/or religion. This often causes distress in relationships, turmoil within themself, and disconnection and isolation from the world around them. They may engage in unhealthy coping skills such as lashing out in anger, school or work avoidance, addiction, and disengagement from social life and family. If this sounds familiar I can help.

Licensed in Utah and Nevada, offices in Saint George and Mesquite. I believe the counseling process a collaborative journey. The journey begins without judgement in a safe and helping environment.... Each of you has a life story and within that story are opportunities for growth, happiness, and fulfillment. Many of you are feeling emotional pain, frustrations, anger, fear, and hopelessness. You are not "broken" just likely realizing that the problem solving tools that may have worked in the past may be dull or worn. Many times we are not sure what to do, or where to look for help. Now is a great time to call and start your journey.

Yo, I'm Sherri, I think of therapy as a creative and collaborative process that allows for a deeper, more integrated sense of oneself to emerge over time. I work with clients to help them better understand and navigate their experiences so that they can feel more authentic and aligned as they move through the world. I see myself as a helper and guide as clients build an understanding of how to release old patterns and experience new things.

While sometimes life seems to move along pretty smoothly, no one is going to escape dealing with challenging circumstances in their life. Whether you might be dealing with something in the past or a present event, relationships with others and the decisions you make are affected by the emotions you are feeling. As a Certified Mental Health Therapist, I believe that when someone is struggling with mental health related issues, seeking help is the best thing you can do for yourself. Emotional issues are often silent and unseen, but seeking help can provide the support and clarity needed to help you move forward.

Few things in life are as hard as asking for help. This is especially true if you aren't quite sure what to ask for or how to ask. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe that the problems we face are influenced not only by what is happening with us, but also within our relationships with others. Our connections and relationships are important to us and our individual mental and emotional health. So whether I am working with just one person, a couple, or a family, it is not about taking sides, villainizing, victimizing, or blaming. It is about healing, empowering, and recovery.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
