Therapy is for the good, bad, and in between. Whether you are in a dark, depressing space, engulfed in the trenches of grief, feel you have “lost control” of your life, or simply need to talk to someone, you belong here.

I have always felt drawn to helping others. This desire led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in Psychology & Child Development from Utah State University & later a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Baylor University. I'm trained in TF-CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I'm here to serve you, to support your goals, to see the best in you, & envision the life you can still create no matter what you’ve been through. My approach to healing begins with helping you build a foundational understanding of how your past experiences continue to impact your present & how you can move forward.

Hurt is a part of healing. Much like physical wounds, mental and emotional wounds also require proper care and attention in order to heal. Without it, we can obtain infections and become sick. Your mind and body deserves healing and to live life without the pain of unkempt wounds. You deserve to embrace all that you've overcome through a more empowered sense of self. However your wounds were acquired (relationships, addiction, trauma, loss, depression, anxiety, etc.) I am here to help you heal. I provide a safe, comfortable and wholly accepting space to help you heal whatever past or present wound that may be hurting you.

“And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom,” Anaïs Nin. This is one of my favorite quotes. I feel that it accurately describes where a lot of us get to in our lives. Change can be scary and uncomfortable. Being vulnerable and opening up to a stranger can seem daunting. I believe the risk to end our pain/suffering is worth it. I am honored to help anyone that is ready to risk and gain the life they want. I strive to make my office a safe place where people can be themselves without having to filter, apologize, or be embarrassed.

Hi, my name is Jessica Gifford. I am a therapist at Capstone Connect, PLLC. Many individuals encounter trauma throughout their lives, and its lingering effects can be challenging to overcome alone. Coping with trauma and mental health concerns often creates a sense of overwhelming distress, making it difficult to discern where to begin seeking support or whom to trust.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
