College students, veterans, chronic- pain patients, performers/artists, etc.
Our true strength is often found while bravely exploring fear and vulnerability. My clients enjoy relief, depth of understanding, and a restored sense of freedom and power. I provide a private space to experience lasting change. I focus on healing your wounds, instead of judging your choices Let's discuss whether I’m a good fit for you. Due to low availability, I’m limiting new cases to those situations where I’ve brought the best results: trauma survivors (both women and men) and specifically women with other concerns such as anxiety, depression/bipolar, chronic pain, recovery from narcissistic abuse, loss of sex drive, etc.

Are you experiencing stress, loneliness or emotional pain related to a major life change, a relationship crisis, or a struggle with anxiety or depression? I have over 16 years of experience working with people wrestling with these kinds of issues. I find great satisfaction in helping people navigate concerns related to spiritual questioning and transition. It is an honor to work with individuals healing from trauma or who are seeking relief from depression or anxiety. I find my work with couples who are having difficulty communicating, resolving conflict or repairing after betrayal very meaningful.

Are you walking around feeling emotionally shut down? Dealing with prolonged sadness and worry? Crippled with anxious thoughts about where you are in life versus where you thought you would be? Therapy is a place where one hopes to explore life’s challenges and have that be met with emotional safety. I aim to provide a safe and open therapeutic environment where you can be your authentic self and have it be okay. It takes courage to reach out, learn self-acceptance and self-love. Facing the mirror can be scary, but only through the process of leaning into vulnerability can we truly blaze a new path.

I believe people are understandable and once we reach understanding, solutions seem evident. If you have sought help before and just didn't feel you got to the bottom of the problems or if you are new to therapy and really want deeper solutions I can help you. Psychotherapy is the science and art of clinical work. We will collaborate: you being the authority of your life, and me the authority of psychology and human emotion.

"There was a dawn remembered when my soul heard something from your soul" - Rumi - The therapuetic encounter allows for the kind of "dawning" which Rumi alludes to. Who am I at my truest being? What lessons am I meant to learn in this lifetime? What gifts do I bring to this world? What is the greater good I want to serve? Each human journey is a mysterious and beautiful evolution of understanding who we are and why we are here. We often lose sight of our inner beauty and goodness due to what seems like life's betrayals, rejections and overwhelming challenges.

Sometimes we build executive function skills to bolster our flourishing in life. Sometimes we learn how to give time and space to thoughts, feelings, emotions, and actions to improve our personal self-mastery. Sometimes we shift the memories of the past to support ourselves as we craft the future we've always wanted. Come with possible goals and we'll chart a plan together. Let's see how the pieces all fit together.

It is my intention to create a safe place for healing, self-exploration, and transformation. I offer compassionate presence and deep listening as we work together through life's difficulties and challenges. I believe people are doing the best they can yet wish to find more accepting and meaningful approaches to healing and growing. Treatment is tailored to help individuals see their true selves more clearly and to identify workable methods to reach their life goals. The therapy relationship can be healing by providing understanding of how early experiences affect patterns of thinking, feeling, relating, and by creating new experiences of self and relationship.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
