Do current events have you frazzled? Ever felt like you were in a relationship with someone who wasn't available? Or are you trying to rediscover yourself after divorce, having a child go off to college, or death of a loved one? I help people with all kinds of situations. Whether you are experiencing problems in a relationship, grief or bereavement, depression, anxiety, or a spiritual crisis, there is hope. I am trained in EMDR, CBT, ACT, DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, psychodynamic theory, and routinely learn from experts in the field. Perhaps most important though, is that I listen.

The common research supported therapeutic modalities I utilize are: EMDR, IFS (informed), ACT, MBCT, MI, Positive Psychology, and other mindfulness and somatic based interventions.
We all need support at times to care for our internal and external worlds, and to dive into the depths of our often layered lived experiences. To care for ourselves in this way, we may need to pull up the weeds of adversities or traumas at a pace that feels right. I hope to offer a warm and compassionate atmosphere for you as you gently tend to the past while remaining rooted in the present. Through attention and intention in therapy, I believe that flowers of wisdom, curiosity, self-compassion, resilience, and hope can grow.

Healing is real and possible. Suffering does not have to last. I help clients live authentically, find more peace, and connect more to self and others by increasing awareness and acceptance of emotions, increasing body discernment/somatic mindfulness, and enhancing the body/mind/spirit connection. Feeling better comes through learning to regulate the nervous system through the reprocessing of old trauma and healing one's attachment wounds, expressing emotions using expressive arts/music/movement/drumming/psychodrama/writing/etc., learning to re-frame negative thoughts, increasing shame resilience, and practicing self-compassion.

I operate from a non-judgmental and compassionate lens, and as such find it vital to help you reconnect to your true self, identifying strengths you can use in your journey toward self-acceptance and joy.
My role as a therapist is to create a space where you feel empowered to explore your thoughts and emotions, as well as find healing solutions to issues you may be facing. These issues may be depression, anxiety, a life change, or past trauma that you may now find yourself courageous enough to face. I have experience working with adults who live with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, maternal mental health, addiction, first responders, faith transitions, and gender transitions. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and sex positive.

I am trained in and typically use a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Strengths Based Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I strongly believe that our life experiences shape our beliefs about ourselves, our relationships, and our world view. While we may not have a choice in some of these life experiences, we have the potential to meet these challenges head on and overcome them. I believe in the power of recognizing our own self worth and strength and how utilizing this power can help us to make positive and meaningful changes in our lives. I believe in the resiliency of the human spirit and using that to help clients find meaning and connection.

I enjoy working with anyone who is genuine, and has an honest desire to learn about themselves, and the courage to begin to make small changes. I fully appreciate clients who are teachable, and who have open minds to understand new concepts. Not all clients are able to identify their goals in the beginning of therapy. This is some thing I enjoy working with clients to determine what changes will create the most positive impact in their lives, or in the challenges they are facing I approach clients with a person centered orientation, and a strength-based approach.

Are you taking care of your mental health?! Self-care is a buzz word now especially since a global pandemic shocked us all out of complacency and feelings of safety. I believe mental health is a daily practice like diet, fitness, sleep and mindfulness that we all need regularly. An experienced guide and wellness partner can make all the difference! I have years of practice working with a very diverse population. As a gay man living in Utah I understand the challenges experienced by ‘unseen’ individuals and I have experience working with a varied group of individuals. Certified in Mind Body Medicine and EMDR. Trauma proficient.

Anxiety, depression, or even intense stress can often get in the way of living the life we are meant to live. I begin by assisting you in gaining a sense of empowerment and clear plan to move toward or return to your true self. I provide space for you to break down self-destructive thought and behavioral patterns often caused by a history of trauma, abuse, or loss. You soon begin living your potential with improved body, mind, and soul connection. Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
