Embracing the therapeutic journey means acknowledging there's no 'fast food' method to healing. In a world where our spirits often face profound challenges, there's no simplistic or instantaneous remedy. Therapy, in its essence, is not merely a sanctuary for surmounting symptoms, healing emotionally, and freeing our voices. It's a profound exploration aimed at uncovering and nurturing our sense of purpose and meaning. This journey enriches our existence, celebrating our complexity and guiding us towards a deeper understanding of ourselves as intricate beings.

Counseling is a process where you and I as a therapist co-operate to discover the things that have kept you from living, and being the person you want. In order to help, I need to know about your situation and life in general. It is important that you be willing to talk about your thoughts and feelings etc. This takes tremendous courage. As we discuss your needs, my job is to help you find the patterns, themes, contradictions, or things that are undiscovered within you and discover ways to increase your growth and happiness.

Are you wondering if therapy is right for you? Here are a few questions to ask yourself: Am I struggling to be myself? Is there a choice in my life I am currently struggling with? Do I find myself worrying more? Are my thoughts overwhelming me? Going through something difficult? Have I lost interest in things I used to love? Have friends been avoiding me or saying they are worried about me? Do I keep secrets from others, and do I feel shame? Do I feel worthless compared to others? Has daily life felt harder lately? If you answered yes to any of these questions therapy can help! I can help you to find the answers you are seeking!

Relationships are one of the most important things in life. Whether that be with a partner, spouse, parent, child or other family member. We understand that strengthening and maintaining those relationships is at the top or your list. It’s at the top of our list too! Change is possible if you have a desire to learn and apply the skills and knowledge you will acquire through participating in therapy.

Feeling anchored to past trauma, grief, or neglect can halt our progress, stop us from experiencing positive emotions in our daily life, and strain our valued relationships. Understanding trauma and the effects it has on how we live our lives in the present is a large focus of the treatment I provide. My goal is to offer a safe space for clients to address these traumas, or any other difficulties that leave them feeling immobilized and lacking in the present. Such difficulties may include: PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, self-esteem/body image, faith transitions, addiction, and betrayal trauma.

Therapy is: Creating desired changes which improve our lives. My goal is to help identify the obstacles which are impeding your happiness and assist you in making changes that will bring a greater level of joy and fulfillment to your life. People enjoy my warm, easy going, supportive nature as they work through life's struggles. Clients progress as they overcome fears, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, addictions, relationship problems, old/new emotional wounds. Success in treatment comes as the barriers to my client's "desired life" fall, one by one, and they become independently prepared for new functioning in life.

I specialize in Trauma/PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, and Couples Counseling. I don’t believe there is one way to treat everyone…which is why using creativity and tailoring the process to exactly what you need is important.  Most therapists tend to fall back on techniques to try to help their clients manage their problems.  My approach is very different.  My approach is all about treating the root cause of anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma.  If you want to get rid of a weed you don’t just want to trim the top, you want to pull it out by the roots.

It is rare for individuals to emerge from childhood without experiencing any form of trauma. Even well-meaning parents can pass it down. Everyone deserves to have their experiences heard and understood. My passion involves assisting people to overcome childhood traumas, attain inner peace, and develop healthy adult relationships to decrease trauma in families. I have found that Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are effective modalities.

I have over twenty years experience working with adolescents. My primary expertise is working with teens, parents and family dynamics but I love working with anyone who is seeking to empower and better themselves. I have experience working with almost every problem and issue but I have found that what truly makes a difference is when people learn to be the most powerful element of change in their own lives. People get better when they become empowered and learn to help themselves. That's when they start to look beyond their own limits. I love seeing people make this step, those are the ones I love working with the most.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
