Each person has a unique story about how they came to be who they are and who they want to become. Sometimes people come to therapy with a clearly defined problem. Others aren’t quite sure why life is going the way that it is. Regardless of where people are on that continuum, I partner with my clients to explore what has brought them to this place and how we might create a new and better future. My goal is to create a space where people are emphatically heard, their strengths are validated, growth and breakthroughs are celebrated, and unhelpful patterns are transformed.

Our mental health is as important as our physical health, maybe more! We all go through struggles from time to time, it’s nothing to feel ashamed of! If we’re not working towards a peaceful, happy existence what are we working towards? What do you deserve in this life?

As a trauma informed therapist for 10+ years, I have gained a variety of skill sets to assist individuals struggling with trauma, addiction, mental health disorders, and anxiety.
I believe that within each of us lies a powerful, resilient human spirit that has the capacity to thrive - regardless of one's life circumstances. My clients have a variety of backgrounds but all of them have one thing in common: a desire to be truly happy and healthy. I get to the root of the problem/s; my clients experience thru interactive therapy that produces results. My methods are directive, down to earth, and engaging for both children and adults. We all develop habits that serve us in the moment, only to discover that those same behaviors and narratives are keeping us from getting what we want out of life and relationships.

I have significant experience working with adoption and attachment related issues with teens, trauma, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, autoimmune and other health related issues.
I am passionate about supporting those ready and willing to face the trials and traumas that we all experience on some level. I love working with individuals seeking support to create change in their lives. It is easy to get stuck and we often hold onto past traumas and hurts that can create mental, emotional, physical and spiritual dis-ease. Finding your way back to self is critical in living a heart centered life and that is my hope for you. Healing is possible and we are not meant to walk this path alone. One of my mantras is "Turn your pain into your purpose". I do believe we can make peace with our past. Are you ready?

I specialize in working with individuals who are experiencing challenges in all areas of their lives. Anxiety and depression can affect our lives in so many ways such as: relationship struggles, intimacy, those seeking a feeling of security, wanting to feel trust, over/under achieving, parenting skills, and other emotional difficulties. We all store memories, experiences and emotions in our bodies. Which means, that it’s not just “all in your head”; rather, our bodies hold information we can use as well. Using my skills in EMDR and IFS we can work through these thoughts, feelings and emotions to heal those parts of you.

I specialize in helping women overcome depression, anxiety and trauma.
One of the most difficult things about depression, anxiety and PTSD is that you can feel all alone in the experience. It can be hard to share it with others especially when friends and family know you as the girl-who-can-do-it-all. That disconnect from others is painful but even worse is the disconnect you can feel from yourself. Therapy can provide a relationship and a process to help you move forward.

I have over 20 years of experience in treating addiction, anxiety, PTDS (and C-PTSD), depression, and personality disorders.
Recovery from substance use and mental health disorders is unique to each person. I firmly believe in meeting people where they are in their journey and helping them find the path that will work best for their individual needs. I am passionate about integrating "traditional" therapeutic practices with "Complementary and Alternative Medicine", such as meditation and yoga. The research behind using these practices is clear that they increase people's mental health and overall wellbeing.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
