Melissa is a strong believer that some of the most important work in therapy can be done without words. She uses a variety of expressive treatment approaches to help her clients embrace and love all parts of themselves, while fostering healthy coping skills and lasting behavior change. She also utilizes aspects of CBT to empower clients to better understand and manage their thoughts and feelings. Melissa uses humor and play in her work with all ages to create an environment where they feel safe and valued.

When we feel trapped in unhealthy patterns, painful relationships, or overwhelming circumstances, we lose hope that things can change. In this hopelessness we may struggle in asking for help. Everyone encounters pain, feelings of failure, and hardships, but that doesn't mean we need to suffer. Our work will aim at building awareness of emotions and thoughts, reprocessing past traumas, exploring how we connect and/or disconnect from them, and change the patterns that entrench us. My hope is to help you access healing and the development of your inner self.

Having struggles can be difficult, getting therapy shouldn't be. Depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict and stress are common, but can be managed. I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach, but respond to my clients' unique needs and preferences. I am not here to just talk but to help you learn how to cope during that moment and all the other moments for the rest of your life. Deseret Counseling is an outpatient therapy for adults, teenagers, children and families. We were also voted #1 Counseling in Utah County 10 years in a row

I have experience working with young children, pre-teens, teens, young adults, couples, parents, and adults. Each phase of life has its own nuances, and I love to walk alongside my clients as they navigate the difficult and unexpected circumstances that can occur. As a parent myself, I am particularly passionate about empowering parents, addressing child-parent attachment, and treating child behavioral concerns. I have also been trained in EMDR and have experience working with both complex trauma and single incident traumas.

Life presents each of us with challenges that can often feel overwhelming and leave one feeling anxious, depressed, and fearful. The opportunity to connect with others is a gift. I am focused on walking the path of healing with individuals, teens, children, and families. Each of us is a product of our life experiences. I believe that each individual possesses an inner strength that at times is difficult to access. My desire is to assist others in this journey called life and move toward hope and peace.

Divorce can be a scary experience for a child. A child can respond to such changes by having tantrums, refusals, and becoming more withdrawn. The guilt and shame of divorce can be so overwhelming that you do not know how to help your child anymore and fear that the divorce can cause damage to your child forever. The good news is, divorce does not have to be the worst thing you can do to your child. In fact, divorce can be a very healthy decision and help your child learn how to cooperate and grow, even under challenging circumstances.

I am accepting new clients and offer Online Counseling via Telehealth. I've provided over 10,000 hours of therapy and like Confucius said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life." I managed LDS Family Services for 13 years and loved directing the 12-step Addiction Recovery Program in Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania. I've been recruited by multiple residential treatment centers, a hospital, a skilled nursing facility, and by an IOP program assessing and treating substance abuse and domestic violence.

Life is messy. Relationships are messy. Taking care of your mental health is messy. Challenges and set-backs are messy. Living your faith and navigating your faith is messy. Pain, loss, anger, grief, betrayal, heartbreak, confusion, addiction, and disappointment are messy. Happiness and living a fulfilling life is also messy. I am no stranger to the mess that makes up our life's journey, and I believe that therapy can help us to navigate through and make sense of the mess. I also believe that when given the right tools and support, we can even turn the mess into something spectacular.

Have you ever felt ashamed? Ever felt like others don’t understand you, but say they do? Those have been my own experiences and have led me to work with people in recovery and their families, survivors of domestic violence/abuse, minority communities and teens. I come from a multi-cultural family with an immigrant parent which has both enriched my life and created unique struggles for me. These experiences, however, have helped me empathize with a wide variety of people and situations. My goals are to support my clients as they navigate their struggles and find hope and strength within themselves.

Our goal at Synergism Counseling is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. Synergy is defined as the interaction of two or more parts to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of the separate parts. Together you can, with the help of an experienced therapist, make significant positive changes in your life, creating synergy. The relationship and trust we will build leads to empowerment, healing and strengthening individuals and family. Everyone can benefit from counseling.
