I am also informed in mind body bridging, TF-CBT, and motivational interviewing.
Pain from trauma does not need to rule your life, nor does trauma always come from a catastrophic event. Often my clients come to me in pain, feeling lost and suffering with symptoms of anxiety and depression. During therapy, I often hear, “I finally have space in my head to think and energy to do the things I want to do.” Therapy is at its best when you are listened to in a deeper way. I have been told by clients that they feel I “make room” for them with a kind and personal approach. Imagine yourself feeling lighter, feeling joy, and having more energy. It is possible.

I use a combination of different modalities like Motivational Interviewing, ACT, and CBT based on the needs and wants of the individuals that I meet with.
I believe that people often recognize the need for change in their lives or relationships but can be unsure of how to begin or have difficulty finding lasting motivation and energy for sustained change. It is my job to create an environment where we can explore possible solutions through the lens of non-judgment, compassion, and curiosity. I work primarily with adults and couples who are experiencing depression, anxiety, addiction, unhealthy anger, and/or relationship difficulties.

I love working with a wide variety of issues, but nobody is a perfect fit for everyone. People that tend to find success with me as a therapist come to me with issues such as trauma or PTSD, personality disorders, severe depression or anxiety, and identity crisis issues. I work primarily with adults, but I am willing to work with adolescents if it is a good fit! I absolutely love working with anyone from an alternative community. If you don't fit in with society you will for sure fit in with me! The most important thing to know about me as a therapist is that I want you to leave my office one day and say "I don't need therapy".

Addiction and its accompanying issues make life a struggle for both the client and for those who love them. Those in active addiction intuitively know there is a gap between the life they're demonstrating and the possibilities their potential affords - if they could only get out of their own way. My methods promote profound fundamental change: the shedding of self-destructive attributes, the definition of a clear, compelling vision for the future, and the tools clients need to implement strategies that will enable them to become the best possible version of themselves.

Every journey begins with a first step. Although it can be scary, you will not be alone. As a therapist, I strive to help you move forward in your journey by creating a safe space where you feel both heard and understood. Working together we can take steps to address thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are negatively impacting your life. I believe that the core foundation of any therapeutic relationship is trust. As we walk this journey together, I will allow you to speak without judgment, I will listen with empathy and understanding, and emotionally connect through open communication, honesty, and compassion.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
