I assist adolescents and pre- teens in cultivating emotional support, navigating healthy relationships, and building decision-making confidence.
Do you have a teen or adolescent who feels like life's challenges are too heavy to carry on their own? Are you seeking to find support for your child struggling with OCD or ADHD? I believe that with the right tools, everyone can be happy and confident in their mind AND body. Clients I work with are seeking emotional support, healing, and self-discovery. Together, we can create a safe, empowering place where your teen can confront your anxieties, fears, insecurities, trauma, and more. How they feel right now does not have to be their whole story.

In life we face challenges that can be difficult and painful for all of us. Adding complexities such as trauma, anxiety and depression, Autism and other neuro-differences, LGBTQIA+ and substance abuse can make it feel overwhelming and impossible. I am truly passionate about helping you heal from the things that stop you from fully experiencing the beauty and joy this life can bring. I have over a decade of experience working with adults, teens and families to heal from their past and gain skills to be successful in their futures.

I want to help you find relief from distressing symptoms such as explosiveness, irritability, chronic pain and fatigue, impulsivity, distractibility, hyper-excitability, social anxiety, fear, mania, and hopelessness. Life wasn’t what I had expected. Having a chronic illness while trying to raise a child with disabilities (DMDD, Anxiety, ADHD, & Autism Spectrum) and being married to a Veteran Navy Corpsman with PTSD from serving with the Marines in Iraq proved challenging. I searched for answers and found success. I became a therapist to spread hope by sharing what I learned.

Life and relationships bring vulnerability, often accompanied by pain and betrayal. Unprocessed, these experiences shape our self-image and future connections. Hurt or trauma can leave us feeling small, lonely, and burdened by secrecy or shame. Collaboratively, I help clients unlock patterns and painful experiences, fostering awareness and facilitating their journey towards embracing a fuller, unencumbered life.

I love working with clients who recognize they want a change, but don't know exactly how to do it. Therapy is a collaborative process between someone who knows theories and techniques, and someone who knows their own feelings, thoughts, and experiences. I often work with clients who are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, and emotion regulation difficulties.

I'm here to be your trusted guide on this journey to a brighter, happier you. As a licensed practitioner in Utah since 1997, my journey has been one of continual growth and dedication. It all started with my rigorous studies and a transformative internship at Sewickley Valley Hospital near Pittsburgh, PA. This experience laid the foundation for me to earn my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the School of Professional Psychology at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. After completing a fulfilling three-year contract in Tooele, I made the exciting decision to open my own office and extend my practice to Davis County.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
