Registering in the USA I am currently a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) while I am working on getting my full Clinical Psychologist registration accepted in the state of Utah. I specialize in issues of psychosis, grief/loss, depression, family conflict, reunification, co-parenting, dual diagnosis, anxiety, and substance abuse/addiction.
Looking for someone to help put the hope back into your life? As a therapist, I enjoy working through those dark pieces we each have within ourselves and teaching others to lean into the discomfort without all the guilt and shame. I've lived a life that has forced me to befriend my own dark places, and walk with them in ways that are gifts, not burdens. I'd be honored to help you do the same. I myself am in recovery so I know how it feels to take the first step in healing. Even though it is hard, the reward is worth it.

I bring hope, humor, and compassion into therapy with both individuals and couples. I believe deeply in our inherent strength and resilience as human beings. The thing I love most about being a therapist is having a front-row seat to witness people’s goodness, strength, and resilience in the face of adversity and challenges. I have experience treating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, faith transitions, and addiction. I believe that people are fundamentally good and worthy and that virtually all of our “dysfunctions” are a result of our adaptation to adverse/traumatic experiences.

Whether you’re experiencing anxiety and depression, relationship issues, compulsive behaviors, grief and loss, or a faith transition, I’m here to listen.
Searching for a therapist is overwhelming. You want to find someone who you can trust in what is likely one of the most confusing times in your life. Your relationships are suffering—and with all this going on, you're now expected to choose a therapist.

I work with people struggling with a host of issues. Many of my clients over the years have had anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, addiction issues, and many more. Since I've been doing therapy since 2008, I have worked with more presenting problems than I can list. I enjoy working collaboratively with people to find a resolution to the problems that bring them to therapy. People often don't know what to look for in a therapist. The research is very consistent here. It says a strong therapeutic alliance is more likely to bring about the change that you are seeking than anything else. My clients find that when working with me.

I work with clients who are struggling with depression and anxiety and other difficulties that are impacting their lives and relationships.
I have been a therapist for 30 years working with most areas of difficulty that impact a client's life. Sometime it feels like no one can understand you or your pain or can help. Often small adjustments are all that are needed to untap the answers and strengths that are inside. I believe in your ability to be able to use your strength. Partner with me to find a way to overcome the difficulty you are facing. If you are ready to make a change in your life lets get started.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
