I have extensive experience with at-risk teens/young adults and their families suffering with anxiety, depression, adoption, addiction, acting out, self-harm, and failed life transitions.
Since 2003, I have enjoyed walking alongside my clients and creating a safe place to expand what is comfortable without pushing them to a place of panic or self-sabotage. As a licensed marriage and family therapist I provide couples, families, individuals and those who have experienced previous treatment failure a different approach to identify, address, and resolve their presenting problems. Contact me today via phone or email to set up an in-person or video appointment.

Sometimes, we face challenges in life that require the help of a professional. While we may have friends and family who are good supports, having a non-biased, safe individual who can provide a safe place to talk can be key to moving forward. Therapy is a perfect place to discover what may be holding you back from being your best and most authentic self. There is no shame in asking for help, and through therapy you can discover strengths that you never realized you had.

I specialize in PTSD, Complex Trauma, Dissociation, Grief, Substance Abuse/Addiction, Anxiety & Depression.
Healing is a process. It is not something that happens immediately or overnight. Think about how long it took to become wounded. Think about how your body heals from an illness or injury. It is a process of healing, and depending on the complexity of the issue or issues, depends on how long the healing process will take. The same way are bodies are designed for healing, emotionally and mentally we are designed for healing as well. We can support the healing process by resting, taking care of ourselves, and being patient. Healing is not necessarily an easy process but well worth the effort. And you are not alone.

I believe that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all. Because of this, I actively tailor my approach to you individually, using a variety of modalities depending on your needs. I specialize in working with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, and trauma. I feel honored to hold space for you as needed, to allow healing to begin.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
