I use attachment based therapy and motivational interviewing as well as skills from CBT and DBT.
Each of us have beliefs and experiences that impact our ability to form meaningful relationships, accomplish goals, or accept ourselves. My hope is to help the individuals, couples and families I work with challenge these negative beliefs and guide them in using skills to develop a stronger sense of self and more stable relationships. Over the past decade I have specifically worked with adolescents, young adults and their families. I love this stage of life, the change that can take place is amazing if given the right tools. Balancing independence and connection for individuals and family is one of my main goals in therapy.

Many of us long for deeper connections, for more authentic living, or to break old patterns that no longer serve. We try and try, but something continues to get in the way. It could be unhelpful thoughts, intense emotions, anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, lack of skills, etc. My goal is to start where my clients are at and to listen deeply in order to accurately assess how we can best work together. I offer a compassionate, objective perspective to help you see more than the things that have you stuck.

Life is a beautiful, crazy, and hard journey. Having a chronic illness myself, I understand how traumatic and challenging it can be. My diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes was the worst day of my life. I've grown a lot since then and adapted to my new life, and I get how impactful chronic illness is mentally, physically, and relationally. There is so much more to you than just your disease and other challenges; you are not defined by your problems. There will always be highs and lows in life, in relationships, in simply being human. I will help you learn how to respond to and move forward with hard things.

“I feel lost”… “I feel like I don’t belong”… “I feel like life is too complex”… "I feel disconnected with myself"... “I’m not who I want to be or who I expected to become”… “I feel stuck in a life that I don’t recognize anymore”… There appears to be a rising recognition of the change and complexity of life in the world today. Attributes that once appeared to be strengths are now often overwhelming and underappreciated. At the root of it all is trauma, which breathes into this life disconnect and isolation.

Reflecting on my journey to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist, I am reminded of the fundamental role that connection plays in our lives. As humans, we are inherently wired for connection. It’s not just about surviving but about thriving through meaningful relationships. However, these connections can also bring us moments of profound heartache and challenge. This realization fueled my deep-seated passion to enter the therapy field—to help others navigate their connections, find greater joy, and heal from past wounds. I use evidence-based approaches, such as CBT and EMFT, to guide you.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists
How does motivational interviewing work?
Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.
Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?
Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.
How long does motivational interviewing last?
Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.
What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?
In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
