The world is a tough place right now. We're all living in a state of constant stress. When we think we have it all figured out, life throws us a curve ball, political ups & downs, the death of a loved one or taking care of an ill loved one. Imagine adding a layer of anxiety or depression. What about introversion? Just for fun, let's also add a layer for people that identify as LGBTQ+. Coming out as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, non binary, or gender fluid can be confusing for your straight, cis family and friends. Whether you identify with this because you experience this regularly or someone you love feels this way.

Your story is unique, your experiences unlike ANY other. The process is to find you as you are, and to journey together to where you want to be. My years of work with traumatized and grief-stricken clients and families have brought the conclusion that anxiety, depression, and interpersonal relationships are the barriers to a healthy self, to a meaningful and purposeful life. Determining the causes and our role in these barriers (overwhelming and unduly burdensome at times) will begin to get us unstuck. Circumstances likely have driven you to the point of therapy, but a great opportunity to regain control and find the healthy you.

Imagine coming to therapy, where you can unpack all your concerns, and be met with genuine care and zero judgment. Life sometimes seems like an exhausting or impossible challenge, especially when we face issues with mood, relationships, betrayal, trauma, health, transitions, addiction, grief and identity/faith crises. Sometimes, we don’t even know why we are struggling so much. If you feel like you are stuck in the past, fearful about the future, or simply overwhelmed, you have come to the right place. You don’t have to live this way! Hope, joy, peace and healthier relationships are potentially just around the corner!

Welcome! Therapy is an important form of self-care. Anxiety, depression, grief & loss, life transitions, and relationship conflicts are often issues that lead people to seek a counselor. Or sometimes a person has experienced an upsetting or even life-threatening event. For twenty years I have assisted individuals, couples, and families in working through these and other concerns. While many may encounter similar difficulties, each person is unique, and your strengths, intuition, and creativity are key in your movement toward well-being.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
