The predominant perspective at Wellspring Behavioral Health is holistic. which regards people and communities as wholes, not just parts pieced together. That means that your physical, psychological, spiritual, behavioral and other "selves" are all intertwined, acting together and impacting one another. Similarly, you live in a family, workplace, and community which influence and are influenced by you. In concrete terms this means that any difficulty that may bring you to see a counselor is seen from a broad perspective opening a wealth of insight and ability to respond.

Life can be difficult and is filled with challenges and traumatic experiences that require our attention and care in order to heal. We are skilled at silencing the aching inside via escape hatches: excessive shopping, over/under eating, using drugs or alcohol, sex, gambling, gaming, etc. Yet, a therapeutic relationship can offer support as we move into freedom by learning to live in the present moment with all life has to offer...

**NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS** Sometimes it can feel like you are stuck in a pattern and can't find your way out. It can seem like you can't stop doing things that will hurt you in the long run. You find yourself saying, "This is just how I am." The story you believe about yourself- about what you deserve - is what will manifest. That narrative will run your life until you dismantle it, & rewrite it. If you aren't running it, it is running you. " The story always wins™ ". My approach is to help you figure out where you learned these things, & discard those that cause you pain & are no longer productive.

In life we experience unpleasant moments during our journey with ups and downs; sometimes it can feel more overwhelming rather than positive. It might look like dissolving relationships personal or professional, difficulty expressing emotions, or anger getting the best of you. It could be spending too much time in your head than living in the moment and missing out in life.

I see good psychotherapy as a collaborative process guided by your needs. I strongly believe that individuals and families have inherent strengths that can help them deal effectively with their problems and make meaningful change. However, many people are too busy or too overwhelmed to figure out what changes they would like to make or to develop the strengths needed to make those changes. Fortunately, we've learned a lot in recent years about creating change--psychological, emotional, and behavioral. When you come in, we will work together to decide what changes you want to make and how.

Along the road, we all developed temporary tools to solve the problems in our lives. Unfortunately, we often forgot to stop using those tools, and they became "permanent." In the end, using the wrong tool to solve a problem does not make one's life better, only worse. In therapy, I work with adolescents and adults to re-tool and get more of what they want out of life. Let's get started!

My goal is to work with you in a partnership to create solutions that are specific to your unique needs. I'm a believer that the opposite of depression is not happiness, but resiliency. We can work together to explore your depression, anxiety, or shame which are often the result from a trauma, or series of traumas. I have found that the most effective therapy has an individualized focus and is a collaboration between you and me. The focus will be to help you explore possible alternative ways of thinking and behaving - the building blocks of change.

Everyone is on their own path, and everyone's path is their own. I like to think of the client/therapist relationship as "co-travelers." Meaning, we are both on this journey together. I believe in a holistic approach to a person's emotional well-being can make all the difference in the world. I want to help clients to become more aware of how the world around them can have sudden, as well as, long term affects when it comes to therapy. If we can be present with our thoughts and ourselves, we're half way there.

In my two decades as therapist, I have been honored to witness people move through incredible challenges and sometimes transform the trajectory of their lives, Just as our bodies send healing to our physical wounds, we hold inside us all we need to be move through tremendous struggles to emerge whole. Our innate capacity to heal is in all of us. It is outside of our awareness because our minds are full of noise. I help my clients become inner explorers. I help them develop a lens of self-compassion, freedom from judgment and gentle curiosity about themselves. When we are at peace within ourselves, everything is possible.

I enjoy providing practical tools to help you navigate through life's inevitable losses and other challenges. I think of myself as a guide, assisting folks through stuck places or daunting challenges, allowing them to increase resilience and personal empowerment. We are living in fascinating times, which can be both exhilarating and terrifying. I encourage embracing the sometimes messy entirety of what life rolls out for each individual.

I serve diverse adults (age 20+), specifically those who have alternative identities (artists, creatives, counter-culture, & minorities of all types) as well as other therapists. I provide a non-judgmental and understanding space for people who may have struggled engaging in therapy in the past due to feeling judged for being “weird” or “different”. My clients typically feel stuck in one or more areas of life (relationship, family, career, holistic health, identity, personal happiness, etc.) and are sometimes struggling with mood and/or anxiety disorders, substance abuse, maladaptive coping behaviors, unresolved traumas, etc.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
