I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in Texas and Connecticut, a Texas state board-approved supervisor (LMFT-S), and an AAMFT-approved supervisor.
I specialize in working with couples and individuals navigating disconnection, trauma/PTSD, loss/grief, and sexual difficulties. Most people I work with have at least one of these two goals: communication and connection. They struggle to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and needs honestly and effectively; they struggle to feel seen, supported and loved within their relationship. Typically, past struggles continue to negatively shape present experiences and reduce or distort future hopes and expectations. Folks often feel shut out, attacked, unwanted, devalued, inadequate, or alone - sometimes for months or years at a time.

I am working on my Gottman Level 1 certification, my AASECT certification in sex therapy, and my PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy at Texas Woman's University.
Do you worry your experiences, preferences, or orientation make the search for a mental health professional difficult? Are there times or situations where you'd like a helping hand, but feel overwhelmed about explaining your background to someone who may not understand? I know what that feels like. My passion lies in helping survivors of trauma and I am deeply invested in serving LGBTQIA+, polyam, consensual non-monogamy (ENM), kink, and all sexual minority communities. I am also sex work allied and provide non-judgmental support for individuals who are, or have been in the sex industry.

I specialize in children, adolescents, families, and couples. I am married with two adult girls and a husband of 28 years. Please know this doesn't make me an expert on teens, children, or marriage. However, it does give me insight and life experiences along with my training to help clients in these life stages. I enjoy working with clients to navigate life-stage changes within family systems. I enjoy working with teens, preteens, and children as young as 4 years old. I have 16 years of experience in teaching and an additional 8 years in youth and children's ministry. I also work with couples in pre- marital and marital counseling.

I believe that therapy is a collaborative endeavor to which we each bring different knowledge and life experiences. You are the expert on your life and have the resources to help you meet your goals. I bring my life experiences, my training and knowledge to assist you in meeting your goals. As a Jungian my knowledge entails understanding the psyche which is another word for soul. As an aide to understanding the soul I published a book entitled, The Journey: An Archetypal Story, available on Amazon.com. It tells, in metaphor and image, the journey of the soul and its goal in fulfilling its life purpose on this journey we call life

My name is Rhiannon Beauregard and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Supervisor and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and Supervisor and I want you to feel sexually confident in yourself and your relationship.
The sexual part of your life is not where you want it to be and you are desperate for change. You and your partner are worried that something might be wrong with you or your relationship. You don’t know where to go for help. This sexual issue is keeping you from being happy and you and/or your partner are depressed and anxious all the time. You think about this all the time. You feel like you don’t know enough about sex and you certainly don’t know how to solve this problem, even though you have tried. No one taught you how to have a healthy and positive sexual identity, so how are you supposed to know how to fix this?

Our life experiences and our relationships with others create a unique story about our lives. There are times when this story unfolds in beautiful harmony and there are times that it seems like life is a hot mess. My approach to counseling is to help individuals, couples, and families discover pathways to finding peace and joy in the present and hope for the future. This may involve digging into past experiences and relationships to find different meaning and/or evaluating the circumstances of the present. Counseling offers an opportunity for everyone that is as unique as the fingerprints we leave in the course of our lives.

You were not born just to be thin and attractive. Of course it's fine to be those, but don’t confuse that with your PURPOSE. You have so much more to offer this world. I'm recovered from an eating disorder myself, so I know how being consumed with food and keeping your body small keeps our lives small too. I was so scared to let go of micromanaging my weight and trying to perfect, but learning body acceptance, food freedom and self-compassion truly changed my life. And that's why I do this work now... I want YOU to be freed up to have more joy, peace, and meaning in your life. I know it might feel impossible but I promise it's not!

I like to think of therapy as a time to gain perspective. I think people can gain a "bird's eye view" view of their life from therapy. Most individuals that I have helped come to therapy because they are "stuck". People get stuck in patterns of behaviors or thoughts, or stuck in relationship patterns. Therapy is a turning point in becoming "unstuck"; it is a time of growth and self-discovery and perspective. I welcome the opportunity to talk with you more about my approach and how we can work together.

Seeking a therapist is a deeply personal process that deserves celebration. It is my honor to work closely with LGBTQ clients and their loved ones. I especially enjoy working with folks who wish to understand themselves better. I often work with clients who have experienced religious, intergenerational, or sexual trauma, and emotional neglect. My ongoing goal is to create a practice routed in LGBTQ affirmation, antiracism, antifascism, and radical love for my fellow human.

If you are like me, the last 3-5 years have been extremely harrowing and has probably stripped away most coping skills we have developed. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker under supervision I want to provide tools, a safe space for an open dialogue about what YOU are struggling with, and a path to feeling positive and hopeful again. I am comfortable working with any age group but my passions are adolescents and clients in the Elder/Geriatric population as well as dealing with chronic pain and illness. I have worked as a Prevention and Intervention Specialist with at risk youth and families and I spent 6 years working in Hospice.

I am a therapist who specializes in working with men, athletes and couples. Many of the skills you have learned and refined to be successful as an individual in your career or sport will not help you with your wife, partner, children or colleagues. I can help you learn the winning and losing communication strategies needed to thrive in your relationships. I can help you think your way down from anger and learn to get more of what you want in your relationship.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
