The person I’m feel best able to work with is someone that has dealt with significant trauma or serious difficulties in their life, due to chronic health or family issues. But they are now interested in working to overcome the impact of these issues on them and their life. Since this person has made an active decision to begin the change process I want to be able to provide support and guidance to them in starting this process. I will work with them to support them in whatever direction they choose to go in their journey. I will also work with LPC-Associates to provide them with competent support, as they start their career.

Having been a therapist for 32 years working with couples and families, I have learned that the most important component while conducting therapy is to establish a conversation of listening to what clients are really saying.

The best therapy is a playful blend of science and relationship. My approach is transparent and direct, getting to the heart of the matter quickly. I use lots of neuroscience to help educate my clients about why and how we should communicate in relationships. My style is unique because I will use lots of humor to encourage us as we navigate each painful spot in your life. The end goal of my treatment is practical as well as compassionate - helping you become more present with others as well as with yourself. I see our work together as the beginning of a transformative process, a collaboration to create meaningful change.

Hello and welcome, thank you for allowing me to help you on your journey to wherever you’d like to go next. Throughout life, we find ourselves struggling over a variety of issues, from anxiety and depression, to a lack of understanding of self. As a therapist, it is my job to help you find and support the direction you want to go. Through a client-centered approach, we as a team can work through and process past traumas, or emotional blocks that get in our way as we grow. The most important thing to remember is that everyone is worthy of help.

I am a State of Texas Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I obtained both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from the University of Texas at Austin. I accomplished this after a previous career that included being a union representative. My own life experiences drew me to social work and I have worked for many years in various forms of addiction treatment. I work with clients with the understanding that “It’s not what’s wrong with you but it’s what happened to you.”

My experience has been working with children, teens, families, and young adults who have worked on behavioral issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, and life changes. When it feels appropriate we can focus on the present feeling while simultaneously exploring the past and future. Furthermore, we can work together to develop coping skills and tools to manage day-to-day life.

Screw it. I'll just come out and say it. Counseling has become too expensive for most people to afford. Getting superior help shouldn't be a trade-off that adds financial stress to those already struggling with other concerns. Though my wife insists that I should get paid what I'm worth, what use is my "worth" if it aids only the privileged few? The fact is that I love counseling. It brings me joy and deep fulfillment. It's fun for me and, yes, immensely rewarding. This is my payment. So, I have decided to work with anyone for any amount. Name your own fee. All I ask is that you bring an open mind and genuine hunger for change.

We all work towards a life we love, but sometimes we feel hopeless and that we're holding ourselves back. I utilize a combination of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment-based therapy, EMDR, and somatic work to empower you to be your authentic self no matter the trauma. In my work I work alongside my clients to find ways of being that are sustainable and long-term. Whether it's addiction, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, or trauma, we will hold space to grow our ability to be mindful, to be in tune with our bodies, and be connected with those around us.

The life we live and the life we want do not always match up. Funny enough, life some times gets in the way of the life we want. I believe that we can live an authentic life with meaningful connections that makes suffering through hard stuff worth it. A person is more than their problems, thoughts, and feelings. I like to work with individuals on figuring out what kind of life they want, and how to persist through tough times to achieve it.

Accepting new clients 10/2023. As a holistic, trauma-informed clinician, I value my role as an opportunity to help people recognize their strengths, allow themselves to safely be vulnerable & feel hopeful for the future. The therapeutic process can be intimidating, so my approach is to make it collaborative and inviting. I have worked with children, teens and adults in both in-patient and outpatient settings. I've read many books and participated in several trainings, but you are the expert of your own life. If you'd like to see if we would be a good fit, send me a message. I offer evening hours both in-person and virtual sessions.

I view therapy as a deeply transformative experience where people may discover more of who they are and ultimately find a greater sense of peace. Our suffering is often a result of a complex set of circumstances involving our sense of self, our relationships with others, our thoughts, and our feelings. I believe each person deserves to be understood in all of his or her complexity. It is only within an open and accepting relationship with another that we can begin to experience ourselves and our relationships in a new and healing way.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
