My approach to therapy is interpersonal and collaborative. I strive to develop a strong therapeutic alliance that will allow us to achieve your treatment goals. I have a strong interest in multicultural issues and working with diverse populations. For me, diversity not only consists of race or ethnicity but also consists of sexual orientation, gender, socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, age, and a myriad of other characteristics that make an individual unique. I integrate your personal history (narrative) and solution-focused goals to develop a treatment plan in order to facilitate growth and change you wish to see in your life.

Walking on eggshells, exhausted making others happy, afraid to hurt or set them off by making your needs known? I specialize in narcissistic/borderline trauma and help you restore your sense of self lost after years of trying to appease a parent, partner, or a family member. If you are stuck in the cycle of people pleasing, ignoring being treated badly, hiding your true self, feeling anxious, confused, unfree, hopeless something is very wrong. Maybe your numerous attempts to improve your relationship backfired and you are to wondering if your loved one may have a personality disorder. Therapy is a safe place to talk about it.

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results." ADDICTION & DEPENDENCY result from an unconscious refusal to move through the pain of withdrawal (from a chemical, thought-process, behavior, other person, etc.). The behavior gets repeated, accompanied by cycles of disappointment, shame, GRIEF, frustration and isolation. Having experienced this same cycle (more than once) I bring years of education, training, personal recovery experiences and compassion to our therapeutic relationship. My PERSONAL therapeutic process is on-going. I would be honored to help you in yours. EASY? Nope. WORTH IT? Yes!

Is anyone ANXIOUS out there?! I think I heard a resounding "YES!" What a stressful, uncertain time we are in now...COVID, global warming, conflicts everywhere - between politicians, neighbors, countries, etc. I specialize in anxiety management, but I find that it is a big umbrella issue that includes many other things, so I talk to my clients about the circumstances, relationships, ways of thinking that contribute to their stress. Each person is unique, and I try to match my approach to their needs. I also like to have fun with my clients. Therapy with me isn't all about gloom and doom. It's about positive change!

My work supports all people to find their best selves. Whether this is your first time in a therapeutic setting or you are experienced, I honor the courage it takes to start a journey of vulnerability. What I enjoy most about the therapeutic relationship is that I am just as human as you are! Clients have found me down-to-earth, non-judgmental, and genuinely invested in their well-being. As a social worker and therapist, I strive to empower each person to identify their own strengths and contributions, as well as skills to cope with challenges necessary for accomplishing their personal goals.

If you are experiencing difficulties with anxiety, OCD, PTSD, or related conditions, I am passionate about helping you to change your life. I received my PhD & MA in clinical psychology from UT Austin, specializing in anxiety disorder research and treatment. I seek to provide a safe, warm, and affirming environment where your individual experience is validated. However, I do not believe that warmth alone is enough for competent treatment. When finding a doctor to treat a broken arm you certainly want a provider who is kind, but unfortunately even the most empathetic doctor will be ineffective if they do not know how to cast an arm!

I have been practicing mental health counseling for over 10 years. I hold licenses in Texas for Professional Counseling and Chemical Dependency Counseling. In private practice, my passions are working with adolescents, individuals, families, and addictions. After the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, I worked on-site with other clinicians to start the first mental health clinic in Uvalde for survivors, community members, and families of the deceased. I volunteer with the Austin Police Department as a member of their victim services team, providing counseling services to victims of violent crime. www.kimbroughcounseling.com

When old ways no longer serve you and "that feeling" just lingers, it's time for a change. I believe you harness the power to heal from old wounds, develop healthy relationships, and grow into the person you aspire to be. My goal is to help you unlock your inner strengths, visions, and interests by helping you explore ways to transform your thought patterns into healthier, more functional patterns.

I have worked in private practice as a clinical psychologist for over thirty years. Most of my clients find my “explore-in-this-moment” approach refreshing and transformational. By distinguishing old defenses from new experience and encouraging clients to explore either side of this fork separately, personal development naturally unfolds. The tendency to resist change is normalized and also explored. My approach offers clients the opportunity to step beyond the world they know to explore at the edge of the unknown which is the source of all change.

Currently on maternity leave through January 2025. You're wondering where you go from here. The negative thoughts in your head are so loud. Anxiety and stress feel like a regular part of your life and you don’t know how to break the cycle of negative thoughts and actions. Minimizing your experience, you think, “I don’t have it that bad,” but you can’t shake it off any longer. The more you push your feelings down, the more they bubble up in other ways. Feeling isolated, stretched too thin, and overwhelmed you’ve finally made it here to look for support. Simply wishing things are different is not enough.

Deciding to speak to a therapist is a step in the direction of health - mental, emotional, and sometimes physical. My clients usually come to me after they have tried all they can think of - I feel honored to be their next step and honor the steps they've already taken. Whether a client's concerns pertain to parenting or becoming a parent, perinatal mental health, life transitions, ADHD, or general mental health, I enjoy working together with my clients to determine the best next steps for them.
