I have experience working with individuals in managing substance use and various addictions, eating disorders, anger management, first responders, anxiety, depression, adjusting to everyday life transitions, relationship issues, and coping with loss.
Sometimes when life brings challenges and unwelcome stress, we may need a little extra support and clarity. At times we may feel confused, alone, or not know which direction our life is heading. Life is full of complications in which we all can benefit from working with a compassionate, qualified, and objective professional. My first and foremost goal is to create an environment of empathy and caring where together we build upon trust and collaboration. As your therapist, I can help you cope with stress, transform your relationships, and improve your overall quality of life.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and have helped clients overcome numerous adversities including substance use, grief, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties to name a few.

Healing from trauma, grief, unhealthy relationships or substance use can happen in an environment without shame or judgment. I tailor the treatment plan for each client's needs utilizing evidenced-based practices and incorporating 12-step recovery, stage of change model and Motivational Interviewing techniques. With these strategies, adolescents and adults have been able to develop healthier coping skills and the ability to thrive.

I have worked in a variety of mental health outpatient settings, including as a Therapist at IntraCare treating Co-Occurring and Substance Use Disorders.
I believe that every individual is capable of making positive changes to improve their lives. Some changes can be more difficult than others, and I believe therapy can help individuals navigate through difficulties and other stressors. My goal as a therapist lies in working to help my clients overcome obstacles and life stressors by teaching skills to improve thoughts, overall mood, and move towards healthier behaviors in order for them to meet personal goals and live healthier, more fulfilling lives. I use a variety of different methods that are individualized to meet the need of each client.

I connect well with individual adult clients from diverse cultural backgrounds who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, substance use, and domestic violence.
Does anxiety, depression, or trauma interfere with living the life you imagined for yourself? Do you feel overwhelmed with competing priorities, struggling to fit it all in? Are you too focused on the needs of others while neglecting your own? Life is messy, full of ups and downs, often complicated by stressful experiences, deteriorating relationships, and major life transitions. Amid the chaos, you may have lost your sense of identity, your purpose, your confidence, your support system.

I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, family of origin trauma, and substance use/co-occuring disorders.
“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom” - Viktor E. Frankl Do you feel disconnected and trapped by the experiences of your past? Does life’s ups and downs have you frozen in autopilot, stuck in a cycle where you can’t find relief? Do you keep pieces of yourself hidden from those around you, carrying guilt and shame that are not your burden to bear? Oftentimes, the space between acknowledging we are struggling and finding the courage to reach out can feel overwhelming.

From there, Cassie continued to build her expertise and now works with many couples and individuals navigating substance use, eating disorders, financial discord and many other life transitions.
For more than two decades, Cassie Menn worked for some of today’s largest, global management consulting firms helping organizations – and their senior leaders – navigate large-scale transformations. Leveraging her certification and deep training with the Mayo Clinic and long-time work in executive coaching, Cassie now brings that to a private practice setting. When making the career change to becoming a psychotherapist, Cassie immediately knew she wanted to build on her coaching career while also helping couples and individuals in ways that only an advanced degree in clinical psychology would allow.

I work to empower clients to identify and utilize their strengths, connections, and values to challenge and overcome their personal obstacles. I believe we all have inherent gifts and attributes that are often overlooked and forgotten in times of stress and dysfunction. In therapy, we will explore what things are no longer serving you and access the things that can move you closer to your goals. By reconnecting with and utilizing our strengths and challenging and replacing unhelpful behaviors and thoughts, we can heal. My client population includes, individuals seeking life balance, establishing a recovery network for long-term sobriety from addiction, including alcohol and mood altering substances. I offer services to teens and young adults transitioning to college, and career development. I will address anxiety and depression through the session as it relates to these transitions. I encourage working with families/couples to address boundaries, communication skills, and family history of addiction and mental health. I like to focus on the solutions, and less on the problems with individuals and families.

In addiction recovery, your biggest adversary is your own mind. Maybe you've asked yourself "why do I have such a strong intent for positive changes, but just as things start to improve I seem to change my mind?" It's the same experience for most of us in recovery; completely normal. Recovery support programs give you the tools you need to transform your life, but what's often missing are the skills needed to use those tools, and a healed nervous system that will allow it. A set of daily practices for both mind and body will change everything for you. Ask about HeartMath and the Safe and Sound Protocol for polyvagal toning!

Have you been lacking the support you need, support without judgement or criticism, and the support you likely have not gotten in the past? I work with my clients using my whole heart as you are likely seeking help due to suffering from adverse childhood experiences, large or small, that continue to impact you today. Trauma rears itself in our daily lives. It becomes the template to which we experience the world. You no longer have to live that way. Let me walk with you.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
