I am very LGBTQ+ friendly and all lifestyles are accepted and welcome.
Hi, I’m so glad you’re here! Perhaps you’ve felt overwhelmed or like you’re never good enough. You aren’t able to be yourself at work or school. Maybe it takes all of your energy just to get through each day. Let’s explore what is keeping you from feeling your best, together. I want our sessions to feel safe, supportive, and non-judgmental so that you can get the most out of therapy. We will work together to find the root of your problems and figure out how to start feeling better.

Some of my passions include working with those that experience anxiety, depression, trauma and the LGBTQ+ community.
Are you feeling anxious, depressed or just can't seem to figure it out? Listen, I get it. Life can be fragile and unpredictable. When we experience trauma or life stressors, it is not uncommon for us to feel like everything is unraveling. As your therapist, I want you to know that you are not alone. Trust me, I have been there, too. My passion is bringing healing to people by empowering healthy perceptions of themselves and their relationships. Hey, I may not know you from a can of paint, but I'm still proud of your decision to improve the quality of your mental health. Remember, you matter.

I promote growth by providing a safe, culturally inclusive, and LGBTQ affirming space for you to feel heard and empowered to create lasting change.
I believe healthy relationships are key to living a happier and more fulfilling life. There’s no denying that relationships are hard, especially when life throws unexpected obstacles our way. Relationships are complex, whether it be the relationship you have with yourself, or the ones with your parents, siblings, partner, family members, friends, or co-workers. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or stuck. Perhaps you are feeling disconnected, frustrated, or unappreciated in your relationships. Or you might be on a journey of personal growth or seeking to strengthen your relationships, but are not sure where to start.

It's time to live the life you want to live - and decide what that life looks like. I see adolescents and young adults (13-35) and specialize in anxiety, LGBTQIA+ issues (including identity and family conflict), eating disorders, and chronic illness. Sometimes this might mean learning and practicing new skills to help you manage problems and obstacles; other times it may mean really exploring within yourself. Frequently, it means recognizing that negative thought patterns are getting in your way - and we can work together to find individualized solutions for you!

I am of the belief that every person is the expert on their own self. Sometimes we just need a sounding board. I recognize that therapy can be a scary and daunting process and I am here to provide a safe and welcoming space to help make you comfortable expressing your emotions. I recognize that each person is a unique individual, with a unique set of goals and needs from therapy. I work to meet you where you are, taking the time to understand your needs, and happily walk alongside you on your journey to reach those needs.

In my 35+ years of counseling I have been fortunate to work with a wide variety of people with a wide variety of issues in a wide variety of settings. My broad goal in counseling is to foster positive change in others. I believe my success in working with people has been my ability to be adaptable and open when relating to the person, group, or family I am trying to assist. I listen to identify the present issues and the possible history of these issues. I employ an eclectic approach in therapy using the tools to promote change.

In your relationship, are you feeling stuck, unloved, unable to talk to each other without a disagreement or fight, or is something from the past affecting you or your partner? There’s so much that impacts a relationship and it’s my role to see through your and your partner’s lens to understand your perspective, history, beliefs, stories, communication, and values. With this, we can work together to bridge understanding in how you think, feel, and act towards each other and break any negative cycles you experience. Relationships can be hard, but they don’t have to be. Let’s work together to find your personal brand of connection.

Are the numerous aspects of life causing you to feel overwhelmed? Do you find yourself wondering when you wake up in the mornings how you will make it through the day? Or maybe alcohol or drugs have taken ahold of your life and you’re ready to take your power back. If you found yourself saying “mmm yeah, kinda sounds like me” to any of those scenarios, then it might be time to talk to someone. Please be assured, going to counseling does not mean that that there is something wrong with you or that you are weak! It is impossible to be prepared for everything that life can throw at you, but you don’t have to do it alone!

I often hear "life is hard". I agree, life is hard and overwhelming. When life is overwhelming, relationships and connections with others can fall apart. No one should be alone with their hardship. I offer a safe and collaborative experience and environment that allows you to feel seen, heard, and understood. Your needs are important. You are important. Hence, it is my honor and privilege to walk along side you through your hardship, to explore the possibility of change, to empower you through your strength, and to witness your personal growth through your life experience.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
