I believe that every person can reach to their fullest potential in life with the right support and guidance. There are times that you may feel anxious, depressed hopeless and alone. In these times it can be very helpful to have someone to help you navigate your way through these challenges to a state of mental wellness and stability. Counseling can provide a safe and confidential space to learn skills and address feelings that likely impact many areas of your life.

I often hear "life is hard". I agree, life is hard and overwhelming. When life is overwhelming, relationships and connections with others can fall apart. No one should be alone with their hardship. I offer a safe and collaborative experience and environment that allows you to feel seen, heard, and understood. Your needs are important. You are important. Hence, it is my honor and privilege to walk along side you through your hardship, to explore the possibility of change, to empower you through your strength, and to witness your personal growth through your life experience.

In my 35+ years of counseling I have been fortunate to work with a wide variety of people with a wide variety of issues in a wide variety of settings. My broad goal in counseling is to foster positive change in others. Mental illness lives. Anxiety lives. OCD lives. Addiction lives. Depression lives. Imagine millions of people around the universe waking up with the same dark, aching places you promised you’d never talk about. I’ve noticed how quick we are, as human beings, to push aside the most meaningful parts of our lives. Let’s not push aside the things that need to be talked about. Let’s bring mental illness to the light. The worst thing we can do is ignore it. It exists and it easily consumes. So if you’re struggling right now my role is to listen, discern your strengths and vulnerabilities, and invite growth as you place trust in my care.

Immediate in person or telehealth available. Teenagers, Couples, Adults, TraumaWhen you feel you can’t achieve anything, your first reaction is to stay away from people. Then it becomes worse, goals you had before become impossible and the idea of loved ones could do better without you start to surface. Your mind tells you that the situation is hopeless and you are worthless. You drift to past experiences where you cringe physically and are filled with regret. Life becomes extremely boring due to you letting your fear control your life. Meeting new people and having new experiences doesn’t happen. You think you’re better off alone.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
