In our lives, we often encounter a multitude of expectations imposed by society, family members, partners, friends, social media, and even ourselves. These expectations can create a sense of confusion, insecurity, and loneliness. I understand that navigating life’s complexities can be overwhelming, and it is during these times that we may experience an array of uncomfortable thoughts and feelings.

As adults, we naturally want to protect children from the pain of loss or the traumatic experiences of life challenges. Children’s response to worries and struggles may cause heartbreak for parents and caretakers to witness firsthand sadness, big emotions, and concerning behaviors. Children and teens should not face the challenges and pain alone. They need support, guidance, and a safe place to process struggles. As a result of psychotherapy, facing struggles and challenges can help kids build determination, courage, coping skills and confidence.

My personal and professional experiences have taught me that people are largely defined by their experiences of connection to others. I believe that relationships can be the source from where psychological distress can arise and can be resolved. Given these beliefs, I have come to take a theoretical approach that incorporates theory and techniques from multiple approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral, solution focused, systems, multicultural and feminist theories, and selectively combine them into an existing conceptual model, interpersonal process theory. Using this approach, the relationship serves as the foundation on which to address behaviors, thoughts, feelings and interpersonal patterns that impede effective functioning.

Life can be challenging and sometimes we are told to be strong despite these hard times. Some are taught a definition of being strong is to act like you’re okay, even when you really want to go hide. Or some are taught to pretend you have it all in order, although you really feel lost, stuck, or confused on what is your next step. Many are taught to keep pushing and move past things, not knowing moving past leads to suppression that will surface later on in life rather we want it to or not. I am passionate about helping others through such difficult times and encourage them to process the past while also working on the present.

Welcome to your story of renewal, healing, and hope. There is hope, even if you can’t see a way forward right now. God made you exactly the way He wanted you to be. We were created to live lives of peace, joy, and fulfillment. If you are not experiencing the abundant life that Christ freely gives, it's not too late! Gods wants nothing than to comfort you, love you, empower you, redeem you and see His glory shine through you. "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right sprit within me", Psalm 51:10. Each session is warm. supportive and inviting, with a Christ-centered, biblically rooted, and clinically competent approach.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
