Imagine replacing anxiety with resiliency.
Are you a young to middle aged adult that gives and caters to others yet feels lost from your own life’s purpose? Do you set meaningful goals but stay stuck in procrastination? Does high anxiety drive self-sabotaging behaviors of over eating, drinking, and screen time? You love the people in your life yet feel unseen or find yourself in a toxic relationship you keep hoping will change. Experiences in our past such as childhood neglect, shaming, bullying, a divorced or conflict in the home, loss of a loved one or other adverse events have a lasting negative impact on our lives today.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with teens and adults who have high anxiety, perfectionism and eating disorders. My goal as a therapist is to help you to discover the true potential of your life, so everyday can be a celebration, and feel like a real ‘breath of fresh air.’ There may be no magic button or quick-fix solution when it comes to changing things from the past that have been difficult, but what we can do is work together to find comfort and resolve in the difficult areas of your life, and the challenges you have to face. I provide a nonjudgmental and relational approach to therapy.

If you or your child are struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, anger issues, low energy, attention problems or sleeplessness, you may be experiencing the responses of a nervous system that has become overly sensitized and reactive. Most people who enter therapy with these presenting problems are eager to experience some relief from these symptoms, and to be able to have more choice about their responses to life’s stressors. They also wish to be able to live their best lives-to experience joy, contentment and fulfillment.

I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, and stress management among other concerns.
As a counselor, I have worked with clients of varying ages, personalities and struggles. I believe that everyone can benefit from having an unbiased, empathetic person to listen to them. Someone to meet them where they are and help them to work through their problems, identify their needs and accomplish their goals. Life is hard, sometimes we need a little help to get through the rough times.

Life is filled with things to worry about. Sometimes those worries come from trauma or within yourself. For adults this could be irritability, anxiety, or fear. For children & teens these worries could even present as behavioral issues or in-school disturbances. Developing confidence, self-esteem, and positive thinking habits can be the key to unlocking a better reality. I want to help you build this confidence & self-esteem; I want to equip you with the tools to create positive thinking habits, overcome trauma, and inevitably help you to use all of these skills to overcome your worries.

I have worked with a wide range of concerns including personality disorders, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and more.
So you have started looking for a counselor, congratulations on completing what can often be the most difficult step! You probably have some trepidation about talking to a stranger about your life and I know when I first started seeing a counselor, I felt like I was under a microscope and I hated that feeling more than anything. Counseling is supposed to be a place where you can feel safe and I hope we can build trust and an understanding that my office is a place without judgment. Seeking counseling for any reason does not mean that you are broken or something is wrong with you, but rather that guidance is needed in the next steps.

I can help adults, teens, & children work through the fear, anxiety, stress and trauma and help you build strong, healthy, resilient individuals and families. I enjoy working with all ages and specialize in family conflict, anxiety/depression, trauma, PTSD, Veterans, First Responders, & child specialties.

Have you ever felt sad, anxious, stuck, or just needing a new perspective? It can be scary to reach out asking for help; however, it actually shows how strong you are, because you will not have to go through it alone. I focus on the strength you have for the challenges you are facing.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
