Are you struggling in a relationship? Tired of fighting about the same things? Do you feel like you can’t get your point across or do you just give up and tune out? And is what you fight about really the issue? Probably not. What is getting in the way of having that relationship you want? I can tell you that as a counselor who practices Emotionally Focused Therapy, you are not to blame, nor is your partner! You are caught in a repeated pattern of behavior, sort of like a negative cycle, which over time erodes the connection in the relationship, leaving us feeling tired and alone.

I support individuals and couples of all ages in exploring commitment, compatibility, and communication habits that will support a relationship where both partners feel safe, secure, & valued.
Are you and your partner wanting to lay the foundation for a fulfilling marriage? Maybe you’re wanting to do things differently than you experienced growing up or you’re finding yourselves caught in cycles of conflict or miscommunication that you want to work through before committing to a life together. Perhaps you’d like to do some work personally in order to be the best future spouse possible. Ultimately, you want to create healthy communication patterns, understand yourself and your partner on a deeper level, and process important questions now as a way of investing in the health of your future marriage, home, and family.

Are you really hard on yourself? Do you often see the world as very black and white, right or wrong? Have you been called a perfectionist? Do these qualities put a strain on your relationships? It is exhausting to try to measure up to these expectations that the world puts on us, or even worse, that we put on ourselves. By engaging in a therapeutic relationship, my hope is for you to find self-compassion and freedom.

Throughout my career, I have experience in working with individuals and couples who have trauma, depression, anxiety, life stressors, relationship conflict, and spiritual crisis.
Are you tired of wearing a plastic smile pretending everything is okay? Are you a Chrisitan trying to resolve the disconnect between the promises you read about in the Bible and the reality of your life? My clients are individuals and couples who are beautiful people with a story of unresolved pain, unmet needs, heartache, worries, and skills that are not working for them. They are stuck in life. They are disillusioned with their relationships. They have big, uncomfortable emotions that seem to create destruction and chaos and they don’t know how to stop. Their faith in God is often failing them. Does this sound like you?

I am a relationship therapist, which includes the relationship we all have with ourselves. My goal is to help you feel safe as you discuss your most difficult and emotionally charged thoughts and feelings. l am excellent at identifying the deeper issues and I give homework that is focused on symptom relief. Arguments and heated discussions between two or more people allow me to see and understand the underlying dynamics that keep people stuck. I am good at separating the issues and empowering each individual which allows the relationship to grow and change in a more satisfying way.

Most relationship problems, whether with a mate, co-worker, or child, begin in our family of origin.
I believe my effectiveness is attributed to an empathic attitude in understanding an individual while working with them to heal, grow, and ultimately change self-defeating thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I am a teacher at heart, so my style is highly interactive and solution-oriented. To most effectively meet the needs of all individuals, I practice an integrative approach drawing from Psychodynamic, Family Systems, Imago, Gestalt, and Cognitive-Behavioral models. Areas of emphasis include interpersonal relationship issues, addictions/codependency, family of origin/ACOA issues, boundaries, anxiety/stress/depression, conflict resolution, trauma/emotional healing, and personal/spiritual growth.

While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
