I work with adults, couples, and families to meet goals and figure out how to “do life” with the hand you’ve been dealt in the most productive way possible. Some of the evidenced based approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy. These approaches paired with a solid therapeutic rapport result in clients reaching goals and seeing actual results from counseling.

Everyone is on a journey and searching for something: meaning, purpose, belonging, or connection. In our journey, we inevitably become lost or stuck. We can lose our sense of direction, or the path becomes too dense for us to continue forward. As a counselor, I see myself as a fellow traveler, working in collaboration with my clients. My clients invite me to walk with them, and together we can clear the path or find a new direction.

My heart and expertise are in the area of dealing with relational issues whether it be between a couple or between parents and teens. So many times, communication gets in the way of being able to deal with the real issues so there is no real resolution. I also have a great desire and many year of experience in working with women's issues. Each individual experience we go through, does affect us, however, that does not mean that we cannot change the way we respond to situations or the way we think about things.

Life is unpredictable and at times can be very uncomfortable. It is during these times, when we look for a safe place so that we do not have to feel alone - either with our thoughts, feelings, or the decisions we have to make.

I believe that therapy is a collaborative endeavor to which we each bring different knowledge and life experiences. You are the expert on your life and have the resources to help you meet your goals. I bring my life experiences, my training and knowledge to assist you in meeting your goals. As a Jungian my knowledge entails understanding the psyche which is another word for soul. As an aide to understanding the soul I published a book entitled, The Journey: An Archetypal Story, available on Amazon.com. It tells, in metaphor and image, the journey of the soul and its goal in fulfilling its life purpose on this journey we call life

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
