I have experience treating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, family conflicts, grief and bereavement, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and life transitions.
If you’ve ever thought, “I’m just not sure what to do anymore. I’m overwhelmed, and I think I could use some help, " I believe this is one of the most powerful realizations we can have. And to act on that realization takes courage and strength. From my own experiences of grief, losses, and various changes throughout my life, I am familiar with how challenging it can be to reach out to others when in need. That is why, as a counselor, I am honored to walk with each client. I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2023. I'm an LPC - Associate supervised by Cortnee Wright, M.A., LPC-S.

My strongest belief as a therapist is that there must be a connection between therapist and client, one of trust and respect. Not all therapists are a right fit for you, you have to find the therapist you connect with. I have worked with individuals and their families to gain skills for coping with and managing issues surrounding depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and behavioral struggles along with relational and personal issues. I have worked with adolescents in hospital outpatient settings as well as private practice. I have experience working with children, adult individuals, couples, and families.

“Some days it is all I can do to just breathe, much less get out of bed. No one seems to understand what I am going through, and I have lost sight of myself.” If you have said these things or have these thoughts, you are not alone. Life is full of ups, downs, twists, and turns. It tends to create challenges that may seem impossible to overcome and leave you struggling. Life struggles can have an impact on the way you perceive yourself and/or the world. You don’t have to work through these challenges alone.

Depressive and anxious thoughts do not have to take over your days and keep you from having a peaceful life. From my personal experience as well as research, I can assure you that people do get better and they are able to live a more satisfying and fulfilling life using some basic cognitive and behavioral tools. I had patients tell me: "this is the most peaceful I've ever been", and "I've always known myself as a depressed person, but now it only feels like a bad ankle that I can ignore and live a fulfilling life with". Basic tools of CBT and ACT have helped thousands of people, you can be one too.

Does it seem like emotions are taking over your life – anxiety, hurt, anger, sadness? Are you struggling with grief, trauma, or other life transitions? Are you noticing relationships are becoming more difficult and problems are surfacing at home, work, or school? Are you turning to coping tools that may help in the moment, but are starting to make things worse overall - drug use, unhealthy relationships, isolation, or other behaviors? Are you losing sight of yourself, the person you want to be, and the strengths you have? If you identify with any of these questions, know you are not alone.

I have been honored to work in the mental health field for 7 years. During my tenure I have worked with individuals suffering from Grief, Bereavement, Depression, Bi-polar disorder, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, you name it, I have most likely seen it. Although working through these illnesses with individuals has been rewarding, the greatest moments have been celebrating the small victories clients make during the process of recovery. I have had the pleasure of witnessing the growth and seeing change through providing person-centered therapy.

I specialize in working with adult trauma survivors, particularly those experiencing PTSD as a result of domestic violence, sexual assault, religious trauma, and survivors of childhood trauma.
EMDR Trained - Certified Trauma Professional: Welcome to my Psychology Today page! The effects of trauma are varied and can show up as anxiety, depression, dissociation, grief, intrusive negative thoughts, disturbing memories and dreams, engagement in unhealthy relationship patterns, and low self-esteem. What you are experiencing is a NORMAL reaction to trauma, but it can get better. As a former educator, I have found that developing an understanding of the effects of trauma on the nervous system is a good way to begin fostering self-compassion, which is the first step in developing resilience and beginning the healing process.

I have worked at a women's center for domestic violence and sexual assault and a psychiatric hospital as well as private practice.
Are you feeling anxious or depressed? Are you experiencing grief over a major loss? Are you dealing with past trauma? I would love to work with you. I have had many personal and professional experiences that can help me help you. I believe that the only things we truly have control over in our life are our own thoughts and behaviors. It is because of this belief that I use cognitive-behavioral therapy. I teach thought stopping, cognitive restructuring, relaxation, mindfulness, grounding, calming techniques and am also a fully trained EMDR Therapist. Call me to see if we would make a good therapeutic team.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
