I see you—tweens, teens, and adults navigating the storm of trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. In the midst of the chaos, you're seeking more than just survival; you're seeking connection—with your mind, body, and soul. I understand the weight you carry and the battles you fight within. Your journey is not just about overcoming challenges; it's about discovering the resilient core within you. It's about peeling back the layers of pain to find the essence of who you truly are.

“Some days it is all I can do to just breathe, much less get out of bed. No one seems to understand what I am going through, and I have lost sight of myself.” If you have said these things or have these thoughts, you are not alone. Life is full of ups, downs, twists, and turns. It tends to create challenges that may seem impossible to overcome and leave you struggling. Life struggles can have an impact on the way you perceive yourself and/or the world. You don’t have to work through these challenges alone.

I’ve combined my lifelong passion of fly-fishing with breathing techniques and emotional awareness to facilitate therapy sessions aimed at helping people work through various emotional pain.
Working through difficult emotions is a key factor in you living your best life, but sometimes fear and anxiety keeps us from accessing and processing these feelings. I can teach you not only to challenge uncomfortable emotions but to work through those deeper feelings that may get in the way of your success. I have a transtheoretical orientation and have found components of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and strengths recognition instrumental in treating my clients’ needs.

Change is possible! Making the decision to seek therapy can be a difficult one and often comes from a place of frustration, anger, sadness, or just feeling "stuck". Therapy can be a way to help you feel "unstuck" and to help you find balance so that you're in a better position to reach your goals. I'm a firm believer that change can happen when we create a safe space for conversation. By building a therapeutic relationship and a safe environment, we can discuss ways to improve the relationships in your life and I can offer support to help you implement the positive changes you're hoping for. Hope can lead to change.

Not accepting new clients
Will be returning from leave on 8/30/24 (Sat&Sun) and will be accepting clients again! As a veteran and EMDR therapist, I am committed to guiding my clients through a transformative healing journey that helps individuals rediscover their strength and inner balance. I don't believe in the "one size fits all" and make it a priority to create a plan that meet my client’s holistic and multicultural needs. I trust the organic process of allowing my client to present what their needs are and honoring them as they emerge. My approach in treatment is collaborative, honest, understanding, encouraging, and engaging from start to finish.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
