Hi! My name is Trista. Whatever journey has brought you to my page, I am so proud of you for being here. A little bit about me: I am married, I have two fur babies who are very spoiled, and I have a slight obsession for plants. Most importantly, I am blessed and honored with the privilege to sit with people in the most vulnerable times in their lives.

I work from a Cognitive Behavioral perspective to help clients dealing with both general and specific anxieties.
Dreading another day of waking up overwhelmed by worry, sadness, and the feeling that you have lost all control? Maybe you have experienced things that leave you feeling weighed down by an unshakeable weight. Anxiety and trauma can feel like being numb one moment then on-edge or jumpy the next. You may find yourself irritable at times and wanting to avoid lots of things to maintain calm, making it difficult to manage everyday tasks and healthy relationships. These heavy feelings can yield what feels like chaos and helplessness in our lives. Enlisting support is the next best step and gives you the ability to feel empowered again!

I am trained in family systems, therefore, I believe addiction, both chemical and behavioral are a family disease and affect the entire family.
If you or your family are struggling with issues like substance abuse, addiction, eating disorders, or relationship conflicts (infidelity, communication problems, etc.), therapy can be a great way to deal with those struggles. Most people struggle without support for longer than is helpful. People have the innate skills to cope and bounce back from their struggles. My goal as a therapist is to provide a non-judgmental space for you to identify and grow the tools to work on those struggles.

Whatever reason brought you here, I hope you stay. I started One Eighty Counseling because I yearned to create a counseling practice that focused on open, kind communication and acceptance. I wanted my own corner of the world where people could truly come as they are. This means that my clients, their families, and their stories could be acknowledged without judgement or fear, and most importantly without rejection. In my practice, I work best with individuals who are looking for a long-term therapeutic relationship to work on struggles over time. What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?
No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.
What therapy types help with behavioral issues?
Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.
How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?
Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.
How effective is therapy for behavior issues?
Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
