I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a current School Counselor. Working with adolescents and young adults has always been a passion of mine. I have 15 years of experience working within this age range.

I deal with a myriad of issues including depression, anxiety, OCD, bi-polar disorders, personality disorders, grief counseling, career guidance, motivation, current and/or past trauma, college experiences, brain injuries, and familial issues like parenting and relationships. I find working with all ages, ethnicities, religions, and special populations fulfilling. I thoroughly enjoy helping other people better themselves. My counseling style is encouraging and humanistic, meaning it focuses on you. I focus on what is real and what is important to you. I provide judgment-free sessions where you can feel safe.

I am aware that no single approach is the right one for every individual, and so I have been educated and trained on a number of modalities.

I am prepared to help a variety of individuals who are in need of support and encouragement in the areas of : child play therapy , adult issues , family and couples therapy . I work with a range of client issues : behavioral adjustments , coping , anxiety , domestic violence , depression and grief issues . I approach therapy from a Christian perspective which allows each person to search for their inner source of faith and support . My name is Jay Cherry. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I believe the therapeutic relationship is key to recovery. I hold a Bachelor degree in psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Guidance, both from Texas A&M San Antonio. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.

I received my BS in Interdisciplinary Studies (1996), MS in Counseling (2004) and then my LPC-A in 2022.As an LPC Associate, I provide services to children, adolescents, and adults using a variety of therapeutic styles. I am passionate about partnering with my clients to help them identify their strengths and utilize them to work towards their goals.

I am not taking new clients at this time.. I focus on treating young adults (18+) and women's issues. I am familiar with the unique problems young adults deal with in this age of technology and social media and their impact on self esteem and relationships/friendships as well as life transitions. I see individuals with various issues including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, social anxiety, self esteem issues, self harm, family conflict, issues surrounding social media, entering college, relationship problems, PTSD, as well as victims of physical, emotional, sexual abuse.

I've worked in the mental health field for over 24 years. I specialize in treating unresolved trauma issues, as well as depression, stress and anxiety. Traumatic issues include childhood abuse (physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect), sexual assault (including military), crime/theft, car accidents, grief/loss, combat, first responders/medical professionals, veterans (including moral injury) and poor leadership. My experience has taught me that most of the time depression and anxiety are unresolved emotional wounds that haven't been fully addressed.

I am a caring and compassionate Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with 19 years of professional counseling experience. Additionally, I am an ordained minister and will provide a faith based approach to counseling upon request. I specialize in treating clients with trauma-related issues and I'm EMDR and TF-CBT trained.

Sometimes it feels like there are mountains in front of us preventing us from moving forward. These experiences may steal our energy and discourage even the most resilient person. The majority of my clinical experience is in working with survivors who've experienced multilayered trauma, individuals struggling with complicated and unresolved grief and loss concerns, disenfranchised grief, and individuals dealing with relational and attachment issues. Many of my client's struggle with anxiety and are working through vulnerability difficulties with themselves and others.

I am here to do my best to help empower my clients to focus on their strengths in the bad times, take off some of the heaviness of the past, and laugh a little along the way. My main goal is to make someone feel heard while also challenging that negative voice in their heads.
