My general position is that our emotions serve a purpose, (like a check engine light on the dashboard of a car). After we check and repair the engine, the light goes out... If the issue remains unchecked and unrepaired, the light gets stronger and more insistent... I will work hand-in-hand with Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and MD's, if needed. However, I believe that the use of meds is only one step on the road to recovery.

I am Guy "Jeff" Powell, Ph.D., a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been providing therapy to children, adolescents, adults, the elderly, and couples for 20-plus years. I have worked with people from all walks of life. I call myself the Blue-Collar-Therapist, because it is my belief, all people, regardless of their station in life, are worthy of unconditional positive regard and assistance with life's difficulties. What is a survivor? Simply put, a survivor is someone who has experienced difficulty in their life. This could be the loss of a loved one, childhood neglect, multiple types of abuse, traumas, or violence. Whatever difficulty is being experienced, my role is to come alongside you, supporting you as you navigate your healing journey. I am a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Oregon and Texas. I have 12 experience working in the field of mental health and substance abuse addiction/recovery, as well as experience with severe and persistently mentally ill population and children with developmental disabilities.

I was born and raised in Japan but completed all of my studies here in the United States, from undergrad to my doctoral program.
